Hello and welcome.
I've started a new live meditation each week called How To Stop Overthinking.
What I'm going to share with you now are the points that I'm going to raise through that live session.
Now it's not necessarily that I'm going to discuss each of these in turn because In doing so,
It's only going to involve more thinking,
More activity.
So what I'd like to share with you now is just to bring these points to your attention.
Let them sit with you and in your own way you'll be able to understand them.
Perhaps ways in which you're able now to Reflect on.
If overthinking is a concern for you,
Then reflect on these pointers because ultimately everything points back to that which is not a process of overthinking.
But the silent still recognition of your own true awareness.
So I'll read these out now and just use these as a reference.
And if you'd like to join in with the live meditation each week,
You're more than welcome to.
So these main points that I'm going to mention during the meditation are these.
Overthinking is not thinking too much.
It is thinking without resolution.
The mind keeps returning to the same subject,
Looking for certainty,
Control,
Reassurance,
Or a different outcome.
Much overthinking is the mind trying to solve an experience that cannot be solved by thought.
We often mistake mental activity for productive action.
A thought is not a problem simply because it appears.
The problem begins when attention continually follows it.
Notice the difference between thinking and being aware that thinking is happening.
The moment you notice I am overthinking,
You have already stepped slightly outside the thought stream.
Attention feeds whatever it repeatedly rests upon.
Overthinking often has a future-past orientation.
What if?
Why did?
What will happen?
The body can be sitting here safely while the mind is living in an imagined future or reconstructed past.
The mind projects possibilities and then reacts to its own projections.
Trying to force thoughts to stop can actually create another layer of thinking.
Why can't I stop my thinking?
Instead of stopping thought,
Stop participating in every thought.
You don't need to answer every question the mind produces.
You don't need certainty before you can be at ease.
Let a thought be present without following where it leads.
Come back to something immediate,
Breathing,
Hearing.
Bodily sensations,
The room around you.
The present moment doesn't require mental rehearsal.
There is a quiet distinction between thought happening and attention being present.
Absorbed in thought.
Perhaps the deepest shift is not,
How do I stop thinking,
But,
Do I need to follow this thought?
And then finally,
And underneath all of this awareness,
And underneath all of this is awareness,
The quiet presence in which thinking comes and goes.
Now,
Further to the live meditation session.
I will be referring those who are listening in on this meditation.
Referring them to the playlist that I've created through the content that I have on the page.
Within the playlist there are 10 headings.
One of those headings is called I return to your true nature.
A return to your true nature.
There are dozens of videos and audio track references,
Links all to do with coming back to that which is the quiet presence.
Before thinking begins.
So I do hope this is a benefit to you.
You have the reference back to the playlist.
You have the opportunity to join the live meditation session where you can ask questions.
And if I have time,
I'll be able to answer whatever question you may have.
All right.
So I do hope this helps you.
This is kind of a ready reference for you.
So you can sit back and look at how you're dealing with your thoughts and some of these that I've just listed for you.
May bring a little bit of a deeper insight and awareness and how you can go about any areas that may be of concern to you.
All right,
So thank you very much and I look forward to seeing you on the live or listening or sorry reading the reviews and the ratings you give the videos or the soundtracks that you will come across in the playlist group that I just mentioned to you.
