Hello,
This meditation is called Somatic Rest Gentle Flow.
Now before we begin,
Just take a moment to be comfortable.
There is nothing that will be asked of you,
Except to be here,
To be present,
Just as you are.
And when you're ready,
Take a long,
Slow,
Relaxed,
Deep breath in,
And at the top of the breath,
Pause for a moment.
And then a long,
Slow,
Relaxed,
Outflowing breath,
Then at the bottom of that breath,
Another pause.
Now as you exhale,
Attempt to make the outgoing breath longer than your incoming breath.
So again,
A long,
Slow,
Relaxed inhalation,
Nothing hurried.
You are here,
Sitting comfortably,
Following the path of your breath.
Now the reason for this longer exhalation,
This stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system,
And it's this stimulation that shifts the mind's busyness to the quieter,
Deeper states of relaxation and meditative stillness and awareness.
This rhythm will become second nature to you,
And its benefit will be felt throughout the whole body.
Perhaps you are getting a sense of that now.
Stay here for a minute,
Focusing on how the body is responding to this new rhythm of breathing.
How is the body feeling?
Is it becoming more relaxed,
Quieter?
Do you feel an increasing stillness,
More at peace?
Take the time to feel and notice how the body is quietly responding.
Is there a quieter,
Deeper presence,
An openness,
Less mind chatter?
Whatever it is that you are feeling is just what it is,
All is perfect.
No need to assess or judge,
Just be here,
Present with your breathing.
Be aware if you notice any of the body's energies.
Now what about where you are sitting?
Do you sense more than just a physical sensation of the body where you are sitting?
Is there a wider appeal to the room or the area where you are being supported,
Protected?
Is the room familiar to you?
What is the appeal?
What touches the senses?
Overall,
How is the body responding to these stimuli?
Now,
Quietly bring your hands up so each touches the shoulder of the opposite arm.
Let your hands quietly clasp the area and just simply with one more deep breath,
Simply rest,
Sensing the presence of your arm being held by each hand.
Keep your eyes closed and allow the sensation of this support,
This comforting feeling,
Being quietly held.
Let this sensation flow throughout the entire body as you quietly breathe.
Be present here with these feelings.
How is the body responding to this touching,
This gentle support,
This self-love,
This healing,
This soft,
Gentle contact,
Perhaps a feeling of safety,
Feeling whole,
Feeling comforted.
Whatever senses are awakened,
Whatever feelings you are experiencing,
Be quietly present with them,
Be still,
Again,
No judgements,
No expectations,
Just be here,
For the body is quietly aware of what you are feeling.
Let this be a whole body experience,
Naturally unfolding in the stillness of where you are sitting,
Perhaps sensing a warmth,
The physical contact,
A quiet reassurance that all is calm and still.
For behind all of these experiences,
There is a greater awareness that knows and sees all that is unfolding,
And as the body continues to settle,
To deepen,
To relax,
Sensations are felt,
Nothing to name,
Nothing to specify,
Just a quiet noticing,
A wider knowing of a still presence.
If nothing more is felt,
Or if you have no experiences like this,
That is perfectly ok.
Just rest here as you are,
As this feeling,
As this feeling body.
And now,
Let's shift effortlessly to sounding together,
By using the voice as a hum as you exhale.
There is nothing to rush here,
For the breath is quietly calm and peaceful,
And we shall simply be sounding hum as we exhale.
I shall softly guide you to start,
And then you may follow if you like,
Finding your own natural pace,
Whatever is comfortable in support of the body,
Or if you prefer you can simply listen and feel the resonance moving throughout the body,
Expanding softly,
Gently,
A soft soothing sound,
Accompanying vibration.
And I will start now,
And follow if you like,
But importantly,
Keep your eyes closed,
And feel the resonance through your body,
Hmmmm,
One more time.
Now even though you may have stopped humming,
There is still a resonance reverberating through your body,
Perhaps you are feeling it,
Not only in the chest,
But more than just this one area,
Through the throat,
Vibrating down into the stomach,
Moving gently,
Slowly,
Throughout the entire body,
Like a quiet,
Soft,
Soothing ripple,
Reaching far,
Bringing comfort and stillness and warmth.
Let it be just as it is,
Keep following the path of your breath,
As this resonance passes through the body,
There is no need to control it in any way,
No need to shape it,
Just allowing the frequency,
The sound,
The vibration to be fully felt,
Throughout the entire body,
And beyond,
And quietly noticing how the body responds to this sound,
Perhaps there is a softening,
A settling,
A letting go,
A quiet unwinding,
A releasing,
A new found lightness,
Or freedom,
And as you rest here,
Resonating in this frequency,
The whole body notices,
And feels,
And is aware,
Of how still,
Quiet and calm all is,
And throughout this entire experience,
The breath has been quietly rising and falling,
Emotions gently shifting in their own rhythm,
Nothing needs to be held,
Just a gentle,
Soft,
Natural flow of ease and calm,
It's as if the body is quietly finding its way,
Back to itself,
Back to its own stillness wisdom,
Back into balance,
Back into ease,
Back into its natural spaciousness,
And within all of this,
There is a deep stillness and knowing,
Already here,
Present,
Unmoving,
Quiet,
Steady,
Supportive,
Not something to reach,
Not something that can be learned,
Not something that you create,
But something that is timelessly and quietly here,
Aware,
And present,
Behind all,
And you are simply resting here now,
Aware of this stillness,
As the spacious presence,
Open and free,
Held within this field of gentle awareness,
There is nothing to fix,
There is nothing to do,
The body already knows what is silently here,
Timelessly present,
And as our time comes quietly to a close,
Nothing is being left behind,
Nothing is lost,
This sense of quiet,
This soft inner support remains,
For it is not reliant on anything external,
Just as it has always been,
Quietly here,
And now gently becoming aware again,
Of the body,
Of your breathing,
Of the space around you,
Where you are sitting,
Everything just as it is,
Still,
Open,
And aware,
And when you are ready,
Gently open the eyes,
To simply notice a sense of ease,
A softness,
A quiet,
A stillness,
All held within the wisdom of the body,
Right here,
Where you are.
