Hello,
And welcome to the session.
Today we're going to be writing some poetry,
And I'll be offering you some poetry prompts.
If you haven't already,
Get yourself a pen and a pad to write on,
And if you're going to use tech to write,
Just turn off any notifications so you're not distracted part of the way through.
Unlike other prompt-based poetry writing sessions,
This one will be a little bit different.
I'll be reading to you some of my poems.
Each of these poems have been listened to thousands of times on Insightama,
And all have ratings of 4.
8 or higher,
So they're well-received,
Which means you're in good hands.
They each will offer you deep,
Specific emotionality,
Crossed with references to nature,
Deep inner emotions and symbolism.
The added benefit of using a poem as a prompt,
Is that you get an example alongside the prompt that might further help you with your own writing.
So the process will be this,
I will read a poem to you twice,
And then I will pause,
Then offer you 10 minutes of silence to write in,
Then I will read the next poem twice and continuing through the four poems of this session.
I just want to remind you before you begin,
That this is your practice.
If you find that one of the poems really resonates,
And you want to keep writing,
You are more than welcome to pause the audio,
And if you would like to share what arises,
You can do so as a review to this session,
Or you could share it with me during a live,
Or perhaps in the classroom of the Playing with Poetry course.
So with all that said,
Taking a slow deep breath,
Checking in to the mind and the body,
Preparing yourself with the pen and the paper,
And listening to the first poem.
Two leaves Two leaves float down a river Pulled by the current of life Sometimes they take the same path Sometimes the river splits them up Yet even when they travel apart,
They travel together Because all paths lead to the source Still,
Each journey may vary Where one leaf faces rocks and rapids The other leaf faces calm tranquility Where one leaf feels the warmth of the sun The other leaf is beaten by rain At times,
All leaves get stuck Blocked by debris or caught on a bank Or pulled under the surface and trapped At these times,
The leaves must wait Wait for another to knock it free Or for the flow to clear the way Or for the slow push of time itself To gently alter the river's shape And then the leaves will float once more This interruption quickly forgotten Because the destination is the same No matter which path it took Two leaves float down a river Pulled by the current of life Sometimes they take the same path Sometimes the river splits them up Yet even when they travel apart,
They travel together Because all paths lead to the source Still,
Each journey may vary Where one leaf faces rocks and rapids The other leaf faces calm tranquility Where one leaf feels the warmth of the sun The other leaf is beaten by rain At times,

Can't you see the ropes sway?
My head is too heavy to cradle in your arms I'm loathe to drive you away The bridges we've walked,
Hand in hand You returned in secret to burn Thus my fate is bound to yours Now the mirror's eye has turned to a mirror Now the mirror has learned to yearn I was blinded by the shine Of your porcelain handshake Fooled into believing That nothing would ever cause us to break The memory of our time apart Like the returning of a playground swing Pushing against fate itself Forever cursed to sing Oh how I learnt To hold onto all those toxic tears Created and then faced together You and I embodying each other's fears The embers of last night's fire Lie discarded in their pit Smouldering as we dance around No chairs left on which to sit Can't you hear my silent screams?
Can't you see the ropes sway?
My head is too heavy to cradle in your arms I'm loathe to drive you away The bridges we've walked,
Hand in hand You returned in secret to burn Thus my fate is bound to yours Now the mirror's eye has learnt to yearn I was blinded by the shine Of your porcelain handshake Fooled into believing That nothing would ever cause us to break Now the memory of our time apart Like the returning of a playground swing Pushing against fate itself Forever cursed to sing Oh how I've learnt To hold onto all those toxic tears Created and then faced together You and I embodying each other's fears The embers of last night's fire Lie discarded in their pit Smouldering as we dance around No chairs left on which to sit Okay Number four Endless Endless waves Endless water Endlessly raging Against an ever-changing shore Endlessly hoping For a peaceful end Endlessly beginning Again and again Then suddenly A splash of cold reality Green and white With a hint of blue Out of my mind and into the sea Physically wet But happy to be Nature showing endlessly more As endless waves crash Against the endless shore Endless waves Endless water Endlessly raging Against an ever-changing shore Endlessly hoping For a peaceful end Endlessly beginning Again and again Then suddenly A splash of cold reality Green and white With a hint of blue Out of my mind and into the sea Physically wet But happy to be Nature showing Endlessly more As endless waves Crash against the endless Shore So how did you go?
