For today's meditation,
You're going to need a partner.
Either another person your age,
Or maybe a parent or a carer.
Because today,
We're going to be doing the eyeball challenge.
For the eyeball challenge,
These are the rules.
You're going to sit,
Cross-legged,
Facing each other,
Looking into each other's eyes.
So,
Set yourself up right now.
You don't want to be too close,
But not too far.
You want to be able to look at their eyes and really see them.
What you're going to do is see who can stare at the other person's eyes for the longest without losing focus.
This isn't a staring competition.
You're allowed to blink,
And you're allowed to scratch yourself if you get an itch.
You're allowed to move your body just a little bit to stay comfortable.
But what you're not allowed to do is,
You're not allowed to speak,
You're not allowed to look away,
You're not allowed to move or jig or make a bunch of noises.
That's it.
That's the competition.
So what we're going to do is,
I'm going to stop talking for 15 seconds,
And we're just going to do a practice round.
Ready?
You're going to look into their eyes,
They're going to look into yours,
And don't look away.
You can blink if you need to though.
You ready?
Go.
Okay,
How'd you go?
Remember,
You're allowed to blink,
You're allowed to scratch yourself if you get a little itch,
You're allowed to move to make yourself a bit comfortable,
But you're not allowed to look away,
You're not allowed to talk,
You're not allowed to do big movements,
You're not allowed to make noise or go crazy or silly.
The way you win this challenge is to stay focused on the other person's eyes.
Let's do one more 15 second practice match,
And then we'll do the real thing.
Are you ready?
Go.
Okay we're almost ready to do the real match.
This one's going to go for a bit longer.
I just want to give you a couple of little tools that you could use to stay focused if you're getting a little bit bored or a little bit antsy.
What I want you to do is this,
Don't take your eyes off their eyes,
But just think,
What can I hear right now and focus on your hearing?
What different sounds can you hear?
Are there cars?
Are there animals?
Are there people talking?
Focus on what you can hear whilst looking at them in the eyes.
That's one thing you could do.
The other thing you could do is practice some calm breathing.
Look at their eyes and just breathe in nice and deep in through the nose and out through the mouth.
Okay so for this round we're going to go for 60 seconds.
Are you ready?
Go.
Thank you.
Okay,
So how'd you go?
Now,
If you like this game,
You can play it for as long as you like.
Just set a timer,
Sit with your partner,
And try and get as higher score as you can.
And then let me know,
What's your best score?
Have a great day.
