As we progress into the summer heat - both our mood and bodies feel the brunt. We probably feel tired, cranky and most often face a shortness of breath. In short, breathing becomes a bit of a struggle. There is a solution - and that is to retrain the body to breath by increasing our lung capacity.

Namaste.

Welcome to a breath meditation that will allow you to beat the heat.

This is a breath meditation where we're going to inhale in through the nostrils and exhale out of the mouth.

I'm going to guide you through six breaths where we're going to inhale to the count of four and exhale to the count of eight.

Do as much as you can in terms of being able to follow the length of the inhale or the exhalation,

Keeping them as comfortable for your breaths if the count is a little too long.

With time and practice,

We will be able to increase the exhalation,

But that will take a little bit of practice.

So to begin with,

Please make yourself absolutely comfortable.

You can either be seated on a chair with your feet flat on the ground,

Seated on your yoga mat,

Or you can lie down.

Once you make yourself absolutely comfortable,

Take a few seconds to gently close your eyes,

Keeping your jaw soft,

Shoulders relaxed,

Bringing the awareness to the natural rhythm of your breath.

You can also give the breath a color,

Perhaps a color that when you think of makes you feel cool.

So perhaps visualizing the breath as a nice blue on the in breath.

And when you exhale,

Visualize that you're releasing all the internal body heat in the form of a gray mist.

To begin with,

Inhale in through the nostrils,

Exhale out of your mouth.

Inhale,

Exhale.

Inhale,

Exhale.

Inhale,

Exhale.

Inhale,

Exhale.

Inhale,

Exhale.

And then just resume your natural inhalation and exhalation,

Observing any changes in the body,

Whether you feel a lot cooler,

Noticing any sensations.

And you can arise from this little meditation whenever you feel ready.

Once again,

Thank you for joining me.

Have an awesome week.

Namaste.

I’m a hairy person from back East with Northern European heritage. More specifically, I’m from Buffalo, where the season are winter and the Fourth of July. So, summer in this time of global warming gives me ample opportunity to practice being with what is and not being in aversion to my discomfort during hot weather. This is a wonderful, delicious meditation, EXACTLY what I hoped to find. Thank you and blessings! Cool(er) regards, Jai

I admit I’m a fan of this weather, and where I live is known for both heat and humidity. I really enjoyed this cooling meditation, though. Thank you!! 🙏🏻😊
