Welcome to this mindfulness sensory meditation I like to refer to as Taste the Rainbow.
We're going to be working with our experience of our senses and kind of what our experience and our background and how it colors some of our senses and how we perceive things.
So finding yourself in whatever seat you find most comfortable for your meditation practice or you could be lying down for this practice making yourself comfortable and settling in and then whenever you feel ready closing your eyes or softening your gaze.
Begin by noticing your breath,
Your inhale and exhale,
Noticing where your breath is located in this moment,
Whether that be in your belly or your chest or your upper chest.
Feel the rise and fall of the breath.
Then begin to notice if your breath is fast or slow,
Deep or shallow,
Noting here that there is no right or wrong,
Good or bad,
There just is the breath that you have in this moment.
You may notice as you begin to become aware of your breath more deeply,
But maybe you begin to change it.
If your breath was rough or shallow,
Maybe you feel yourself lengthening that breath and it becoming smoother.
Don't worry about this or what your breath is,
Just allow things to progress as they are organically.
Feel that breath begin to settle you in and bring you fully into your body,
Your senses in this present moment.
Maybe noticing the weight of your body on the floor wherever it may be touching,
The weight of your feet,
Your hips,
The weight of your hands.
Taking a moment to scan down from the top of your head down to your feet,
Just checking in with your entire body,
Your face,
Your head,
Your eyes,
Ears,
Nose,
Mouth,
Neck.
Moving down through the shoulders and arms and hands and fingertips,
Down through the upper chest and mid chest,
Upper back,
Mid back,
Belly space and lower back.
Becoming aware of your pelvis,
Your hips,
Your upper legs,
Knees,
Lower legs,
Ankles,
Heels,
Arch,
Foot and toes.
Feel your body as it is here in the space,
The space around you,
Whatever sounds or smells that are around you.
Opening yourself up to spatial awareness of your body in this place.
I want you to bring to mind the color red,
The first color of our rainbow.
What does red taste like?
When you imagine the color red in a flavor,
What does it taste like?
What does the color red smell like?
Allow the first thing that comes to mind to be that smell,
That scent,
That aroma of the color red.
What does the color red sound like?
Soft or loud,
Clanging,
Tinkling.
What does the color red sound like for you?
And finally,
What does the color red feel like?
What texture comes to mind when you think of the color red?
Gently bring the color orange into your mind's eye.
In this moment for you,
What does the color orange taste like?
What flavor do you think of when you think of the color orange?
What does the color orange smell like?
What aroma first comes to mind when you imagine the color orange?
What does the color orange sound like?
You see the color orange,
What sound do you think of or comes to mind first?
And what does the color orange feel like?
What texture do you imagine when you think of the color orange?
Visualize in your mind's eye the color yellow.
When you think of the color yellow,
What does the color yellow taste like?
What flavor lingers on your tongue when you think of the color yellow?
Is it sharp?
Is it salty?
Is it tart or sweet?

What does the color yellow sound like?
What sound do you most closely associate with the color yellow or when you think of the color yellow?
And what does the color yellow feel like?

Now bring to mind the color green and visualize the color green.
What does the color green taste like for you?
What's the first thing that comes to mind as a flavor for the color green?
When you think of the color green,
What smell,
What aroma comes to mind?
Maybe there's more than one.
And when you think of the color green,
What sound do you hear?
What sound do you most closely associate with the color green?
And when you think of the color green,
What does the color green feel like?
What textures or texture does it have for you?
Now visualize the color blue.
What does the color blue taste like?
Salty,
Sweet,
Sharp,
Tart,
Cool,
And warm.
When you think of the color blue,
What smell do you most often associate with the color blue?
The first thing that comes to mind,
What does blue smell like?
What does the color blue sound like?
What sound do you hear when you think of the color blue?
When you think of the color blue,
What do you feel?

Now bring to mind the color purple.

And when you think of the color purple,
What textures do you think of when you think of the color purple?
Is it smooth or velvety,
Soft,
Cold,
Wet,
Dry,
Warm,
Fuzzy?
Gently bring your awareness back into your body.
If you bring that link to your senses.
A little bit more online here.
Noticing the aroma of the space around you.
Maybe there's more than one.
Noticing the textures underneath your fingers or hands or body or the air as it brushes against your skin.
Notice any flavors that linger on your lips or on your tongue.
Any sound or sounds that you hear in that space immediately around you.
And now notice your breath again.
Notice any changes to your breath as you have gone through this meditation.
Do you notice any difference?
Do you notice any difference in your awareness with your space,
Your body,
Your sensory experience in relation to the world around you?
Whenever you feel ready,
Softly open your eyes.
Maybe taking a moment to look around the space you're in and noticing all the things you always notice with your eyes.
Most of us,
Our sensory experience is more dominated by our vision.
Sometimes it's nice to reconnect to the rest of the senses more thoroughly,
More fully,
To experience presence and mindfulness in the moment with all of your senses.
If you have a few moments,
Sometimes interesting to write down all the sensory experience you had of each one of those colors.
Even more interesting,
If someone else you know does this same meditation and you compare how your experience,
How your life,
How who you are,
Where you live,
How you live,
Can color your perception of color through your senses.
Thank you so much for joining me for this meditation practice.
Peace.
