Hello,

My name is April and welcome to this meditation practice.

Today we're going to be working with ancestral connection,

Connecting to those who came before us in our lives,

Whether we recognized them or experienced their relationship with them or not.

We're going to be using this to help us feel more support,

Maybe do some healing,

Some letting go,

Some forgiving,

Lots of different things that could come up,

Or maybe just feeling a connection to those who came before.

We are a result of all the hopes,

Dreams,

And deep love of those who came before us.

And by connecting to that,

We connect ourselves to some inner source of strength,

A sense of community.

For this practice,

You can be seated,

Making yourself comfortable however you wish,

Lying down,

Can be propped up against a wall or in a chair,

Whatever makes you feel supported and grounded and comfortable.

Settling into your seat and taking a few moments,

Just connect to your breath,

Noticing where you are breathing more.

Maybe you're breathing into the center of your chest.

It's been a busy,

Stressful day.

You've been moving fast.

Maybe your breath is in your belly.

You've been quieter,

More restful,

Or maybe even just woken up from sleep.

No judgment here.

There is no wrong or right or good way or bad way.

There just is the way your breath is in this moment.

And as we connect to our breath and become more aware of it,

We automatically make a few changes.

Maybe you feel yourself with your breath extending a little bit longer on the exhale.

Maybe you notice that your breath is more full or rich,

Breathing into the outside space of the lateral body,

The side body,

Breathing into the back body as well as the front.

Maybe you find as you become more aware of the breath that you settle and feel more peaceful and connected.

Just follow the rise and fall of the breath wherever it is.

Notice the rhythm of the breath.

The inhale,

The exhale.

And within each breath,

A pause at the bottom of the exhale and a pause at the top of the inhale.

These points of stillness and quiet and peace.

Space between each inhale and exhale.

Softly focusing your awareness on these still points and maybe allowing them to extend a little bit longer than they naturally would.

As you follow the breath,

Maybe you notice tension in certain parts of the body.

Allow the breath to soften and soothe those spaces.

Maybe on an inhale,

Bring your shoulders up to your ears and exhaling,

Letting those shoulders drop down a little bit lower.

Maybe on an inhale,

Reaching up through the crown of the head,

Making yourself super tall,

And an exhale,

Settling back down into the floor.

We're going to use our breath as an anchor in this practice.

Keeping that breath awareness in mind,

Notice that space where the breath most often comes from and where it ends.

Allow a certain part of your awareness to just remain there in that anchored space of the breath.

If you don't already have your gaze soft or your eyes closed,

You can let those eyelids become more heavy,

Closing them if that feels okay for you today.

Gently taking a breath or two to scan down from the top of your head down to the bottoms of your feet,

Just intentionally sending the message of relaxation,

Opening receptivity.

If you have your palms turned down,

Maybe turning those palms up on your knees or on the side of the body or in your lap.

Just a state of calm relaxation,

Asking yourself if there's anyone in your past history,

Your ancestor line that you would like to contact or reach out to today.

Is there someone in particular you've been thinking about a lot or remembering or things in your life or drawing your awareness back to memories of them or things they offered you?

These don't have to be absolutely positive memories or a perfect relationship.

It can also be a relationship that's challenging that you simply want to connect with and explore those feelings brought up by this relationship.

And don't worry if someone doesn't come immediately to mind.

Don't feel any pressure here to think of someone in particular.

Maybe today you're just open to any messages from your ancestors,

Maybe messages from someone in particular.

And gently visualizing here in your mind's eye that you stand at the beginning of a pathway.

The pathway looks well worn but well cared for.

It's comfortably wide.

Everything alongside the path are flowers,

Bushes.

And you see up ahead this path winds its way through trees.

Big beautiful trees and more flowers and more plant life.

The pathway is flat but it winds a little bit here and there so you can't see the very end of it.

But you feel called to follow this path.

And as you take your first steps,

The ground beneath you is comfortable.

You feel a lightness,

A curiosity.

You slowly make your way along this path noticing your favorite flowers,

Your favorite trees.

The beautiful color of the blue sky with soft clouds drifting across.

It's the most beautiful pathway you've ever been on and you feel supported and comfortable and easy and light.

And although you feel drawn to move down the path,

You don't feel as if you're in any hurry.

Everything will come in its own time.

You don't have a specific destination.

You just feel this deep sense of wanting to follow the path to its end.

And as you walk you feel the breeze soft,

The sun on your shoulders and on your skin.

It's a perfect day in every way.

And your heart lifts and your energy is light and buoyant.

You follow the path and finally you see up ahead that the path ends near a park bench.

Park bench looks comfortable and well used.

Maybe it's made of old growth trees,

Hand carved.

Maybe the trees stand right around it giving it a little bit of shade.

And the park bench looks out over this beautiful serene lake.

The sun glitters on the surface of the lake.

And a soft breeze blows,

So little gentle lapping noises of the lake against the shore.

And all around the lake from your view you can see trees,

Plants,

Flowers,

Gardens.

It is a still and peaceful space.

As your eyes turn back to the bench once again,

You notice there's someone seated there.

Someone you know.

Maybe it's someone you instantly recognize from your past or your experiences as a child or youth.

Maybe it's someone you don't recognize from what they look like,

But you feel a sense of knowing who they are.

A deep connection that goes back through time and space.

You approach the bench and this person looks up and smiles.

Gently pats the bench right beside them.

You sit down and get yourself comfortable.

Maybe it's your grandmother or grandfather,

Aunt or uncle,

Cousin,

Someone in your ancestral line.

Maybe it's someone you don't know by sight,

But you feel that connection.

You know they are part of your ancestry,

Of your family.

And softly you ask,

Is there any message that you have for me?

And instantly you feel the answers coming.

Words of wisdom,

Love,

Support.

Maybe they come in the form of thoughts or emotions.

Maybe they come in the form of memories.

Maybe your feelings toward this person on the bench,

Your relationship when they were here in your life was troubling or challenging.

Maybe the emotions that you feel from this person are difficult.

Allow this space.

These are messages too.

Every message is valuable.

Maybe asking yourself if you can let go of a negative emotion or a negative memory,

Releasing it,

Forgiving them and allowing yourself to heal.

Maybe your memories are so strong about your personal connection to this person that you lean over and rest your head on their shoulder.

Maybe taking their hand,

Feeling the warmth of their energy,

The support of their thoughts and energy,

Their unconditional love.

Allow all of this to wash over you and through you.

Maybe you feel called to ask specific questions of this person.

Guidance.

Maybe the answers you receive are in the form of questions.

Questions you need to ask yourself about how you're moving forward and how you're living your life and the choices that you're making.

It's okay here to also feel nothing in particular.

Just a sense of connection and community.

A link to your ancestors.

Perhaps the person next to you is not someone you recognize.

They too have messages to send.

They too have wisdom to share.

Allow the energy to move back and forth between you,

However it organically feels it should.

Releasing what no longer supports you or serves you and accepting the gifts of your ancestors,

Their wisdom,

Knowledge,

Love and support.

Feel unconditional love,

Compassion from your ancestor and from yourself shared between you two.

No matter what messages you receive from them or what your relationship was or is,

Take a moment to say thank you.

Thank you for the sacrifices you made,

Your hopes,

Your dreams,

Your gifts,

Your skills.

Everything that you gave me,

My life.

You are a result of the choices made by this person.

Feel a sense of them sending all their love to you,

Being so proud and supportive of who you are and the path that you are on.

Feel them wanting to protect you and care for you.

Gently turning your gaze to look out over the peaceful lake,

Letting this all settle into your mind and body and soul.

Know that it is time to leave.

Feel a deep sense of peacefulness.

Share your gratitude with the person on the bench and gently start to take that path back to where you started.

And as you return on this path,

You feel even lighter.

You feel loved,

Cared for,

Respected,

Supported.

You feel you've let go of things you no longer need and received wisdom from those that brought you into this world.

And as you walk the path back,

No need to rush,

Enjoying all the beauty around you,

Feeling comforted.

And as you reach the beginning of the path,

You realize that you can return to this place at any time.

Connecting to any and all of your ancestors every day,

Every moment,

Whenever you feel the need,

Whenever it calls to you.

Gently bringing your awareness back to the anchor of the breath.

Softly becoming aware of your body touching the floor or a chair.

Whenever you feel ready,

Softly opening your eyes.

Maybe taking a few moments to write down in a journal whatever you learned,

Whatever you received from this time spent with your ancestors.

Feel free to return to this space again and again as often as you like and as often as you need to feel supported and connected to those who came before you.

To help you feel supported on your life journey and also heal any old wounds and let go of old resentments that may be holding you back from being your very best self.
