Hello and thank you for joining me for this guided meditation for peaceful sleep.
This is a relatively short practice which includes some mindfulness meditation and guided imagery of clouds.
By the end of this practice you should hopefully be feeling more peaceful,
Have a more still mind and be able to drift into a pleasant and comfortable mind sleep.
So begin by finding a comfortable place to sit or to lie down.
You can close your eyes if you wish or allow them to close whenever it feels right for you.
Allow your body to relax,
To sink into the chair or the bed.
For the next while just know that there really is nothing you have to do except to enjoy this practice.
This is a really special time for you to let go of your day and prepare for a peaceful sleep.
As you sit or lie here allow your breath to be natural.
Don't try to achieve any particular state.
Simply allow your breath to find its natural rhythm.
Experience your breath flowing in and flowing out of your body.
Perhaps today has been a busy day for you.
Perhaps you've had many things to do.
Your mind might still be going over all the things that you've done.
Maybe even thinking about the things you could have done or done differently.
Or perhaps instead your mind is projecting ahead.
Thinking about the many things you have to do tomorrow.
Rehearsing what needs to be done in different situations.
Or even making plans for the more distant future.
I wonder if you can imagine yourself now standing on the earth and looking up at the expansive sky.
Seeing your thoughts like clouds floating above.
All of your thoughts can float high above you.
Not disturbing you at all.
Allow your thoughts to come and go.
Like clouds taking shape and then passing away in front of your attention.
Changing shape as they go.
And eventually just drifting away.
Don't hold on to any particular thought.
And don't try to chase any particular thought away.
Allow each thought to arise and pass in its own time.
Not bothering you in the least as you enjoy standing looking at the sky.
And as you allow your thoughts to float away,
You might find that your body can also release.
Letting go of the stresses and the strains of your day.
Preparing you for a peaceful sleep.
If you find your mind getting lost in thoughts,
Just notice that that's happened.
Then come back to the soothing rhythm of your breath once again.
And create a little distance from your thoughts by seeing them as clouds in the sky.
