Hello,

A very warm welcome and thanks for joining me.

Today I'd like to share a poem that I recently wrote called Today I Get To.

And the idea behind this poem has been floating around in my head for a while and I recently had some time and space to put it into writing.

It was inspired by a really good friend of mine who often likes to correct herself and others whenever she says or they say,

I have to,

I have to do this,

I have to do that.

There's so many things in life that it seems we have to do.

We never get to the end of those things.

But actually everything we do in life is a privilege because not everyone has the opportunity to do all of the things that we get to do.

So instead of saying,

I have to,

Why not bring some gratitude and appreciation to our mind and instead say,

I get to.

So here we go.

Today I get to wake up.

Not everyone does today.

I remind myself I'm alive.

And if I take it for granted,

I say,

Hey,

Hey,

It's a beautiful morning.

Nature and birds are calling.

Today I get to enjoy a mindful walk.

Not everyone can walk,

You know.

I'm blessed that my joints are still working.

My legs take me where I want to go.

And I love to go for a hike.

It's much better than riding a bike.

Today I get to eat butternut squash.

Not everyone has enough to eat.

And this is just one of many delicious foods like hummus and olives and red rosy beet.

What I get to eat is so fine.

I eat like a king all the time.

Today I get to work on a project.

Not everyone has a pleasant career.

Time flies by as I write and create.

And my ideas seem wonderfully clear.

I'm so lucky to do what I do where everything is magically new.

Today I get to move my body.

Not everyone can move how they desire.

I can stretch,

Bend and run without too much trouble.

Too fast and my lungs are on fire.

It feels so good to be free.

My body responds to me.

Today I get to sleep peacefully,

Laying down on a comfortable bed.

Warmth,

Light and softness soothe me as I rest my weary head.

And I remind myself while counting sheep that getting to do anything is not guaranteed.

I hope you enjoyed it.

Take good care and if you like,

Please subscribe.

Take care.

Bye bye.
