Dear friends,
Have you ever felt that the weight of your past is preventing you from making progress in the present?
It's a common enough feeling.
Very few of us can look back over the past without experiencing some sense of regret,
The if-only thoughts that bubble up from time to time.
When these thoughts arise,
We can be greatly troubled by the knowledge that we could have done better.
We recall past actions which would have been best left undone.
And we can also be afflicted by the realisation of missed opportunities,
So many things left undone which should have been done.
We might even begin to think that it's too late to change,
Held back by what in religion are described as our sins of commission and our sins of omission.
These thoughts can result in a certain sluggishness,
A tendency to procrastinate when it comes to doing something good.
The burdens we carry can make us feel that this is just the way we are.
We can even begin to write ourselves off as beyond the possibility of improvement.
And carrying these burdens as we do,
We find it hard to see that things can be different,
That we can do better.
What a great pity it would be if we allowed our past errors to sabotage our future possibilities for good.
Wonderful thing is that right here and right now,
Every one of us can open the door to a better future.
Each of us can make a resolution to do better.
We can draw a line under the past and we can lay down the burden of our past errors.
This very day we can begin again.
And having made that resolution,
We can be better people tomorrow than we were yesterday.
Let's have a one minute pause now to allow us to contemplate a future made brighter by the resolutions we make today.
Welcome back.
Every firm resolution to begin again opens us to a world of possibility,
A new tomorrow where we can send out ripples of goodness and kindness that can make all the difference to the people around us.
So never ever write yourself off as someone who cannot do better.
You can.
And by means of a mindful and firm resolution,
You will.
Wishing you all the happiness in the world as you begin again.
Namaste.
