It Would Have Been Enough

For over a thousand years the Jewish people have prayed or sung a series of verses known as Dayenu. In this meditation, I give you a new version of this ancient song. I hope it will allow each of us to give thanks for our existence and the wonderful world around us. The background music is "Ascension" by Narek Mirzaei of Music of Wisdom.

Dear friends,

Dayanu is a song that is part of the Jewish holiday of Passover.

The song goes back a thousand years and it refers to the gifts of God and expresses the idea that if any of these gifts had been stopped or if the series of gifts had been stopped at any time,

We still would have been given enough.

In this meditation I have a new version of this ancient song for you.

If I had been brought into this existence,

But not onto such a beautiful planet,

It would have been enough.

If I had been brought onto this beautiful planet,

But not given sight of the moon and stars,

It would have been enough.

If I had been given sight of the moon and the stars,

But not the galaxy,

It would have been enough.

If I had been given sight of this galaxy,

But no knowledge of the countless numbers of galaxies that do exist,

It would have been enough.

How much more then must I be grateful for all that has been given to me?

Words fail me when it comes to giving sufficient thanks.

But it helps to recall the words of Maestro Eckhart,

If the only prayer you ever say in your entire life is thank you,

It will be enough.

So I pause to give thanks,

To express gratitude and wonder for all existence,

For my existence.

How can this be?

I listened to this meditation while gazing at the sky, eyes wide open, as it was getting cloudy and about to storm through my backyard. But I felt calm and content and enjoyed the brief moment of gray dark colors as they merged with the twilight rays from the setting sun. It never rained. It never stormed. But the dark giant clouds remained. And I was calm enough, content enough. 😊
