Welcome to Life Unedited,
The Power of Radical Acceptance,
28 Theories of Living in Reality.
This is a series of practical strategies to use in life through the lens of reality for changing obstacles into opportunities.
I'm Tiffany,
And this is Theory 13,
Asking for What We Want.
Sounds easy enough,
Right?
But then there is the other saying,
Be careful what you wish for.
We are taught to be careful of what we ask for because we might just get it.
We might unknowingly ask for something we really do not need,
And then we are surprised when we get it.
Wants and needs can be the same or different.
We can want something and not need it,
As well as need something and not want it.
For the purpose of this theory,
The two are used interchangeably,
As they are subjective to each individual.
The foundation of asking for what you want is the law of attraction.
Like attracts like.
What we put out into the universe comes back to us.
If your request is positive,
Then according to the law of attraction,
What you receive will be positive.
The opposite is also true.
If your request is negative,
Then what you receive will also be negative.
This theory is important because it is up to us to take responsibility to ask for what we want or need,
Rather than expect others to just know.
We cannot have our needs met if people do not know what we need.
And on the flip side,
Just because we ask does not mean that we will get what we ask for.
We must be prepared to meet our own needs as well.
Another way we ask for what we need can be nonverbal.
We can picture our request by visualizing what we want.
Personally,
I have utilized vision boards or wish lists in the past with some pretty amazing results.
I also have mantras that I have been saying for literally the past 20 years.
One of them is,
I am grateful for a thriving private practice.
And hand on heart,
Every time I say that,
I get at least two new referrals within 24 hours.
Gratitude is a beautiful and powerful practice.
It is a state of being thankful for what we have had,
What we have currently,
And what we would like to have in the future.
Gratitude is pure,
Positive energy and aligns with the law of attraction.
It also goes hand in hand with asking for what we need.
It is an excellent practice to remedy worry too.
If we are stuck in a worry cycle,
The best practice is to think of the most positive outcome for whatever it is that we are worrying about and be grateful for it as if it has already happened.
Keep saying it until we begin to believe it.
Gratitude derails the negative worry train and has been shown to promote positivity in our bodies at a cellular level.
When we are grateful for what we would like to have,
As if we already have it,
A strong positive energy is sent to the universe.
Practicing gratitude in advance generates positive energy that can perpetuate your wish into being granted.
That does not mean that we always get exactly what we are asking for.
We will receive a response.
It will meet our request in one way or another.
That response might even be nothing,
Which is still a response.
We might not get anything at the time we ask,
And that is about divine timing.
Yet we will get something when we are supposed to.
We only receive what we can handle,
And sometimes that might feel overwhelming.
Sometimes when asking for what we need,
We do not get exactly what we have in mind.
I wish I had a car so I can drive to and from work is an example of asking for what we want.
Then we mentioned to a co-worker that we want a car,
And they offered a carpool with us if we help with gas money.
Technically,
We got a vehicle to get us to and from work.
It might not be our car,
Yet it meets our needs.
We could broaden our scope and think outside the box when it is not apparent that we got what we asked for.
Asking for what we need is also helpful in communication.
If we front load a discussion with a statement about what we need from the conversation,
It gives our listener more information.
If we had a rough day and need to vent,
Letting our listener know that we just need to unload without feedback could be helpful.
If we do want feedback,
Sharing that with our listener could help them pay better attention so that they can offer that feedback.
I believe with every ounce of my being that when we ask for what we need,
Then we will receive what we need.
Self-fulfilling prophecy.
Manifestation.
If we are focused on positive and grateful intention,
Then we receive more than positive results.
Even if we must search for the silver lining,
If our focus is negative,
Then that too will come back to us.
So yes,
Be careful what you wish for,
Because you're more powerful than you know.
