Self-Validation Meditation
by Terri Cole
Self-validation is an important aspect of emotional well-being and self-esteem. When you validate yourself, you are acknowledging your own feelings, thoughts, and experiences as valid and worthy, regardless of whether others agree or understand.

Please find a comfortable place where you can sit or lie down now for the next 10 minutes or so.
Hang up your Do Not Disturb sign.
Get really comfortable.
Make sure that you're warm enough.
And let's begin.
Let's start with mindful breathing into a full body relaxation.
So gently close your eyes.
Make any last-minute adjustments that you need to to be completely and totally comfortable.
And just start by breathing deeply in through your nose.
Long,
Deep breath.
And out through your nose.
Long,
Deep exhalation.
Continue breathing in this way mindfully,
Slowly,
Luxuriously.
And with every inhalation,
Visualize that you're inhaling the peaceful,
Positive energy that's all around you.
And with every exhalation,
Visualize that anything that no longer serves your greatest good is leaving your body with your breath.
So let's do a full body relaxation so we can find any areas of constriction or uncomfortable feelings or dis-ease.
And we can move those out of the body with the breath.
So let's start at the top of your head.
Visualize a beautiful amethyst or golden light coming down from above to below.
Coming in through your crown chakra.
Relaxing your scalp.
Relaxing your head.
Relaxing your face.
Feel the warmth of that light moving into your neck.
Relaxing all of the muscles that attach your head to your neck.
Totally and completely relaxing.
Feel that relaxation move down into your shoulders.
Relaxing your biceps and your triceps.
Your forearms,
Your wrists.
All the way down to your hands and your fingers.
Now see and feel that light.
The warmth of that light moving to the back of your body.
Moving from your upper back.
Relaxing your middle back.
Relaxing your lower back and your buttocks.
Allow your back to simply melt into the couch or the chair or the bed that you're on.
See and feel that beautiful healing light moving into your hips.
Relaxing all of your torso.
So just visualize this light pouring into your entire upper body.
Completely relaxing.
Healing.
Restoring to perfect health.
See and feel this light moving from your hips down to the big muscles of your thighs and your hamstrings.
Moving down to relax your knees and your shins,
Your calves.
All the way down to your ankles and your feet.
Take a deep breath and now scan your body.
Is there any part of your body where you feel constriction?
Any part of your body that needs your attention right now?
It could be a thought that you can't let go of.
It could be a physical feeling in your body.
Put your attention on that area right now and take a long,
Slow,
Deep breath right into that spot.
And on the exhalation visualize that tension,
That limitation,
That pain,
That fatigue leaving your body with your breath.
So just scan from the top of your head to the tips of your toes.
And breathe deeply into any spot that needs your attention.
And let's take one last deep breath.
And completely release ourselves into total and complete tranquility,
Peace and relaxation.
And now that you're relaxed from the top of your head to the tips of your toes,
It's easy for you to visualize everything with perfect clarity.
Let's drop our attention inward because that is what we're focusing on right now in this meditation,
Is self-validation,
Which means we go in before we go out.
So right now drop your attention inward.
And I want you to literally feel the feelings of when you are approving of yourself,
When you feel good about yourself.
What does that feel like in your body?
Memorize this feeling because part of this process of focusing on self-validation first,
It is literally self first is what we want to remember as we're seeking to have more self-validation,
More self-esteem,
More emphasis on what we think.
And it's not that we don't care what other people think,
But we have to care what we think first.
So before you ask anyone their opinion on what you're doing,
What you should do,
What's happening in your life,
I'm going to ask you to stop.
Take a deep breath and drop your attention inward.
Give yourself the space to figure out how you feel,
What you think you should do,
If you feel good about the choice that you've made or not.
Because there's always time to course correct.
At the end of the day,
It's really what we think that matters the most.
So we know that saying what other people think about me is none of my business,
Which I know is easier said than done.
But when you really think about it from the perspective of why that is,
That every person is coming from their own subjective experience.
And so much of the time,
What they think about you has nothing to do with you.
So the power of flexing this self-validation muscle is that we don't need other people's approval or validation.
And yes,
It's lovely to be recognized.
I'm not saying we won't like those things,
But it's different to like it than it is to need it.
So this process is the moment you see yourself looking outside is for you to stop,
Drop that attention inward,
And see how you feel.
The moment someone else may be disapproving of you,
It's to instead of instantly feeling back or going back to a childhood wound,
It's to stop,
Drop your attention inward,
And see how you feel.
Because other people cannot like what we're doing.
They can disapprove of what we're doing.
They can withhold validation from us.
And that doesn't mean that anything we're doing is actually wrong.
So you become the source of your own validation.
So take a long,
Deep breath into that truth.
Now let's start gently repeating our affirmation.
I accept and approve of myself with ease.
I accept and approve of myself with ease.
I accept and approve of myself with ease.
So just take the next minute or so to silently repeat that in your mind,
And I'll let you know when it's time to come back.
Gently stop repeating this month's affirmation.
I accept and approve of myself with ease.
It's time to bring your attention back to your body,
So you can start by stretching your hands and rocking your feet,
And give yourself a nice,
Big,
Full body stretch.
Take this knowing about the power of your own self-validation out with you into everything that you do today,
This week,
This month.
And as always,
Take care of you.

this is a lovely reminder to self validate- and give to myself - what i need in this moment instead of trying (often by manipulating and loudly hinting) to get others to validate me- I can give this to myself ๐นโค๏ธ
