Dharana (yogic concentration)
Dharana is the deeper stage of sustained concentration that trataka is traditionally used to prepare for. Trataka is the entry technique, the steady gazing that builds toward that state, not the state itself.
Clinical vision therapy or orthoptic eye exercises
Orthoptic and vision-therapy exercises are prescribed under professional care to address refractive or eye-muscle problems, whereas trataka is a concentration practice and is not a treatment for vision disorders.

A few situations do call for care. If you have glaucoma or raised eye pressure, the gazing itself is usually fine, but the head-down and inverted postures sometimes taught alongside it can push the fluid pressure inside the eye upward.
