Take a moment now to settle in.
Allow yourself to find a comfortable position,
Whether you are sitting or lying down.
Gently close your eyes or soften your gaze.
Begin by taking a slow,
Deep breath in through your nose and a long,
Gentle breath out through your mouth.
Again,
Breathing in,
Filling the body,
And exhaling,
Letting go.
One more time,
A deep,
Nourishing inhale and a soft,
Complete release.
Now allow your breath to return to its natural rhythm.
No need to control it.
No need to change anything.
Just notice the gentle rise and fall of your breath.
As you begin to settle,
Become aware of the simple fact that you are here,
Present,
Aware,
Noticing.
Now gently bring your attention inward and begin to notice the space of your mind,
Not trying to change anything,
Just observing.
As you observe,
You may begin to notice thoughts appearing,
Some quiet,
Some louder,
Some subtle,
And some persistent.
And among these thoughts,
You may notice a familiar voice,
The voice that judges,
That questions,
That criticizes,
The inner critic.
It might sound like,
I'm not good enough.
I should be doing more.
I always get these wrong.
Or perhaps it shows up in a different way for you.
There's no need to push it away.
No need to silence it.
Just notice that it is here.
Now gently shift your awareness.
Instead of getting caught in the voice,
Begin to notice that you are the one who is hearing it.
You are the listener.
The voice is speaking,
But you are the one who is aware of it.
And that changes everything.
Take a moment to feel into that.
The voice is there,
But you are here,
Listening.
As you continue to observe,
You may begin to notice something else.
The voice comes and goes.
It rises and fades.
It is not constant.
It is not solid.
It is not who you are.
It is simply a pattern of thought.
Now imagine that this voice is like a sound in the distance,
Like a radio signal.
It is like a radio playing in another room.
You can hear it,
But you don't have to walk toward it.
You don't have to turn up the volume.
You can simply let it be in the background.
As you do this,
Bring your attention back to your breath,
The steady,
Calming rhythm,
In and out.
Notice how the breath is always here,
Grounding you,
Anchoring you.
And the voice can simply come and go like passing noise.
You don't have to argue with it.
You don't have to believe it.
You don't have to follow it.
Just notice,
I am aware of this thought,
And then gently return to the breath.
Again,
A thought may arise,
I'm not doing this right.
And instead of engaging,
You simply notice,
Ah,
There is the inner critic.
And you step back,
Creating space.
Now imagine that you are sitting beneath a vast,
Open sky,
And each thought,
Each critical voice,
Is like a cloud passing through.
Some clouds are dark and heavy.
Others are light and barely noticeable.
But all of them move.
And you are the sky,
Wide,
Open,
Unchanged.
No cloud,
No thought can define the sky,
And no thought can define you.
Rest in that awareness for a moment.
Now gently bring your attention back again to the sense of being the observer.
Not the voice,
Not the thoughts,
But the awareness behind them.
The calm presence that notices everything.
From this place,
You may begin to feel a sense of distance,
A soft separation.
The voice may still be there,
But it no longer has the same power,
Because you are no longer inside it.
You are witnessing it.
And in this witnessing,
There is peace.
There is separation.
There is space,
And there is freedom.
Take a slow,
Deep breath in.
And as you exhale,
Imagine releasing any attachment to the voice,
Letting it drift further and further away.
You don't need to fight it.
You don't need to fix it.
You simply stop holding on.
Notice what remains when you are no longer entangled in the thoughts.
A quiet,
Steady presence,
A sense of ease,
A sense of simply being.
Now gently bring in this affirmation,
I am not my thoughts.
Again,
I am not my thoughts.
And I choose peace over criticism.
Let these words settle into you,
Not as something to force,
But as something to allow,
A gentle remembering.
Take another slow,
Deep breath in,
And a long,
Soft breath out.
Begin to feel your body again.
The weight of it,
The contact with the surface beneath you.
Wiggle your fingers,
Your toes,
Bringing awareness back.
And as you prepare to return,
Know this,
The inner critic may come back,
And that's okay.
But now you know you are not it.
You can always step back.
You can always observe.
You can always return to this place of calm awareness.
With observation comes freedom.
Take one final,
Deep breath in,
And exhale fully.
And as you move gently into the rest of your day,
Carry this sense of calm and inner space with you,
Trusting that peace is always available within you.
Thank you.
