This short guided exercise helps you to practise sensing into the support of the ground beneath. Grounding exercises are one of the simplest, most accessible ways to regulate the nervous system—always available and easily done without others noticing. Photo by Indra Giri on Unsplash

Transcript

Make yourself comfortable and close your eyes or soften your gaze.

Bring your attention down into your body.

Sinking right down through your body until you find where your body is in contact with the ground.

Like your attention is a little diver,

Dropping down through the water until you land on the bottom.

It doesn't matter if you aren't in direct contact with the ground,

Even if you're lying on a bed,

The ground is still supporting you through the bed.

Just notice those parts of your body that are in direct contact with whatever is supporting you beneath.

Take a few breaths and give your body permission to rest into that support,

Allowing the ground to hold you.

You don't have to do anything,

Just breathe and exist for a few moments just as you are,

With the ground always there beneath you.

And every time your thoughts pull you away or distract you,

Just gently come back to what it is like to feel the contact that your body is making with the ground.

When you feel ready,

Open your eyes and continue with your day.
