This is just one minute on relax.
There's a lot about modern life that is zoom zoom and stressful.
And to balance that,
It's really important to tap into one of the really ancient fundamental parts of the nervous system,
The parasympathetic wing of the nervous system,
Which is a part of it that helps us relax.
And as we repeatedly relax,
We build up trait relaxation,
And we also increase our rate of recovery from bouts of stress,
All of which are associated with good outcomes in terms of physical and mental health,
As well as the ability to relate to other people more skillfully and effectively.
So to train in greater relaxation,
It helps to have some kind of practice in which for a minute or more a day,
You really relax.
Actually that if you do that repeatedly you build up expression of genes inside your brain that calm down the stress response and therefore make you more resilient.
Another thing to do repeatedly is to focus on long exhalations.
The parasympathetic wing of the nervous system is involved in exhaling.
So that as we exhale,
The heart rate naturally slows and you really get a nice natural sense of easing.
Another thing you can do is be aware of that internal.
Gas pedal and realize that,
No,
I can be effective.
I can even move quickly.
I can still get a lot of stuff done while being relaxed in your core.
So in these ways,
May you relax.
