Welcome to this sleep story.

Rain on a window.

My name is Ruben and I'll be guiding you through this story,

Which is about rain on a window.

You stand at the window,

Right where you are,

In this very room.

It feels like it's the best place that you can be.

How can this be the best place we can be,

Says your mind.

There are plenty of other places we could go.

You smile gently,

Knowing that there is no peace of mind in your mind.

You decide to gently use this affirmation here,

Now,

So as to reconnect you with that feeling from just a moment ago.

There is no peace of mind in my mind.

I choose to step out of my mind and into this experience that unfolds around me.

You cultivate that feeling once more in the experience of recognizing that peace takes place outside of your thoughts.

And so the chatter of your mind fades into the background as the magic of this room unfolds around you.

The floor is of a creamy,

Varnished light wood,

With a large Persian rug in front of the orange glow from the cinders within the fireplace.

Once again,

This really feels like it is the best place that you can be.

Every direction you look in brings on a sense of peacefulness,

A sense of presence.

It's as though this moment was made for you.

The large marble mantelpiece appears to proudly surround the fire,

Affirming the splendor that it is standing for.

The fire emanates a perfect wave of warmth as well as a mesmerizing,

Interchangeable orange glow.

The cactus on the window sill,

Albeit tiny,

No bigger than a golf ball,

Also seems to call out to you.

It is nestled in its miniature pot,

Doing nothing.

Simply being.

What is simply being,

Ponders your mind.

As you do nothing but open up to everything at the same time.

An overwhelming sense of relaxation is with you as you experience yourself coming deeper and deeper into the now.

As you experience yourself doing nothing and being aware of everything.

Is it you,

Or these very surroundings that are gently hypnotizing you into this deep sense of relaxation and presence?

This sense of well-being?

This sense of ease?

And so it is,

Your timing is absolutely perfect for noticing the gentle pitter-patter of the rain in the very moment that it starts.

The chorus of pitter-patter as each individual sound of each individual raindrop gently strikes against the window.

It's mesmerizing.

You love this experience,

Narrowing your concentration to focus solely upon this sound.

You love using your awareness like this.

It's like a spotlight as you focus in upon something.

A sight,

A sound,

A sense of touch,

Taste or smell.

It's as though your attention is like a spotlight that zooms in,

Attuning itself more and more with this quality of connection.

You do the same again,

Right here,

Right now,

With the rain on the window.

It's so simple and yet so profound at the same time.

The more you come to know this experience,

The more you notice something coming up from deep within you.

There is a subtle sense of joy within you.

Joy,

The joy of being.

It's mesmerizing,

Simply mesmerizing.

Your attention shifts but only slightly as you continue to get lost or found in the slow movement of the raindrops,

Some of which are delicately collecting together.

It only takes about two or three of these smaller drops to form a slightly larger drop.

A larger drop that,

Once formed,

Gently trickles down the window pane and gathers at the bottom,

Creating the tiniest of rivers that lead to wherever they lead.

Where do they lead,

Says your mind.

The smell of the burning wood has changed slightly.

Now,

In cinders,

It's a less bright and more subtle smell.

The smell of the cinders glowing away,

The pitter-patter from the movement of the rain and the stillness.

The stillness in its majesty.

The stillness from every other object within this room.

Deep peace is upon you and that subtle sense of joy within you.

Deep peace is upon me.

A sense of joy within me.

Your forehead is soft.

Your shoulders relaxed.

Your breath is soft and slow.

You intuitively take a deep breath and close your eyes for a moment.

Without deciding to,

You find yourself being the witness,

The watcher,

The noticer,

The observer of your inner world.

You notice that your mind is neither busy nor not busy,

But somewhere in between.

There are thoughts,

Patterns of thought,

Presenting as images and streams of words,

But there are gaps in between them.

These thoughts are fleeting.

They come and go in the background.

You are not identified with them.

You are watching them,

Just like when you last went to the movies.

Here it is,

The movie of my mind,

Allowing these pictures and streams of words to be projected onto the imaginary blank screen in front of you.

I am the witness to these thoughts.

I am the watcher.

I am presence.

You intuitively open your eyes and notice that the pitter-patter has subsided.

You know that it is cooler from outside.

You decide to taste the breeze,

And so you lean over to open the window by just a jar.

The coolness of the world outside merges with the warmth of the air in your room.

You notice that you are now gently surrounded with the smell of the rain,

That familiar,

Refreshing,

Renewed smell of rain intertwined with the scent of the soil,

And of course the vegetation that Mother Earth gives life to.

As you drift away,

The smell of the rain is taking you back,

Way back.

A memory from your childhood,

A memory that you hold dearly,

A memory that you haven't recalled in years.

A simple smile from that particular person.

This memory has always nurtured you every time you have recalled it.

And here it is,

Recorded in your mind,

A snapshot of sweetness.

How could it have been this long,

Says your mind,

Something this good?

Recalling this actually complements this sense of peace and joy within you,

Bringing an added sense of nostalgia.

Now that the cool breeze has given you this renewed freshness,

It seems like the perfect time to close the window.

And so you do.

Attention,

Ease,

And that lingering sense of joy from deep within captivate your attention once again.

How can this be the best place we can be,

As your mind?

You smile,

Knowing that there is no peace of mind in your mind.

This space is where you are supposed to be,

Suggests reality.

You smile from this kind wisdom that surrounds you and is within you.

This knowing smile,

Just like the Mona Lisa,

Nothing forced,

Just a gentle half smile,

Held in kind,

Wise awareness.

You smile,

Knowing that there is no peace of mind in your mind.

This track took me to the best place I can ever be. You described a special part of my childhood to a tee. In our living room we had a fireplace. My family would gather there. I’d stare at the fire and get lost in it. If there was a storm, my Dad would open the curtains so we could watch it…. and those nights, I was in the very best place I could be. I’m getting emotional writing this. As a child you don’t get a message, or lesson, from your experience. Visualizing and hearing it with adult senses relays the lesson in such a wonderful way. I was in the moment. Sorry this is so long, you made a brilliant track, everything about it is perfect. ❤️ Thank you Reuben. 🙏🏼
