Welcome to this do nothing meditation.

In this practice,

There's no breath to control,

No posture to perfect,

No state to reach.

You're invited instead to drop all effort and simply allow everything to be as it is.

You may notice thoughts,

Sensations,

Emotions,

Restlessness,

Peace.

It's all welcome.

The only instruction is to do nothing.

So let's begin.

Let yourself arrive.

And choose any posture that feels natural today,

Either seated or lying down.

Let your hands rest where they fall.

Your eyes can either be gently closed or kept open with a soft gaze.

There's no need to fix or arrange anything.

Just notice how the body meets the moment.

Now take a few slow natural breaths.

Not to change anything.

Just to feel that you are here.

Inhale,

Exhale,

And rest in awareness.

And now the invitation.

Do nothing.

Let go of controlling the breath.

Let go of chasing stillness.

Let go of trying to meditate.

Just sit.

Just be.

Notice what happens when you give up all effort.

Even the effort to let go.

If there's restlessness,

Let it be restlessness.

If the mind is busy,

Let it be busy.

If there's calm,

Let it be calm.

There's no need to choose,

No need to push or pull.

There's nothing to improve.

Everything that arises is simply arising.

Sensations,

Sounds,

Thoughts.

No need to follow,

No need to resist.

You don't have to be present.

You already are.

If you notice the mind trying to do something,

Trying to focus,

Trying to stop,

Trying to get somewhere.

Just notice that too.

You don't need to stop it.

Let the doing happen.

Let it be seen.

And even that will pass.

Be like the open sky.

Thoughts and feelings are like weather.

They come and go.

The sky does not interfere.

The sky does not cling.

The sky does not try.

You are the sky.

You are the sky.

There is a stillness that doesn't need to be created.

It's already here beneath all movement.

There's an awareness that holds everything.

Thoughts,

Body,

Breath.

The whole of your experience without needing to change a thing.

Can you sense it now?

And allow yourself to rest in that.

And when attention drifts,

That's fine.

Even drifting is a part of the experience.

Even forgetting you're meditating is just another arising.

So notice it and come back to doing nothing.

You may feel bored or deeply at peace.

You may feel spacious.

Or tightly contracted.

The invitation stays the same.

Let it be.

No analyzing.

No fixing.

No preference.

This is acceptance.

This is radical acceptance.

This is effortless presence.

Now allow yourself to lean even more deeply into this sense of being.

No need to monitor anything.

No need to know what's happening.

Just be the one who notices.

And then even let go of that.

No center.

No goal.

No controller.

Just life unfolding.

You are not your thoughts.

You are not your sensations.

You are the field in which all appears and disappears.

Rest as that.

Nothing to do.

Nowhere to be.

Nothing to become.

This is your natural state.

Simple.

Open.

Aware.

Just be.

Let the silence now hold you.

No words.

No guidance.

Just resting in being for a short while.

Now very gently begin to return.

Notice your body.

The weight of gravity.

The sounds around you.

Let your breath deepen naturally.

Maybe wiggle your fingers and your toes.

If your eyes were closed,

Gently blink them open.

And notice how it feels to return.

Just be the one.

Not as someone different,

But simply as you are.

There is nowhere to get to.

You have always been here.

Take one final breath.

And carry this spaciousness with you into whatever comes next.

I found the sparse gentle instructions very helpful. Getting enmeshed in thoughts feels like a habitual doing rather than doing nothing. But the enmeshment eventually stops and doing nothing continues.
