
Yoga Nidra: Energy Sensing

This a wonderful Yoga Nidra meditation that focuses on energy sensing. Each time you listen it will be a new experience, and your perceptions of your energy and the energies around you will reveal themselves more clearly. I invite you to give yourself the time and space to engage in the process of re-establishing your connection to your vital life force, and in finding a new relationship with the energies around you and in your life.
Transcript
Welcome to this yoga nidra meditation practice on sensing energy.
Let's begin with taking a little time to get comfortable,
Welcoming yourself into your space,
And accommodating your body's needs at this time.
As you settle yourself in,
Give yourself permission to have this time and space just for you.
Maybe allowing your eyes to gently close,
And taking three full cleansing breaths in,
Breathing in through your nose and out through your mouth.
And as you do this,
Tuning into your body,
Giving the mind permission to set things aside for right now.
And allowing the breath to begin to find its own natural rhythm,
Making any additional adjustments so you can release movement and honor what's right for your body at this time.
Maybe even envisioning yourself surrounded in white or golden light.
And with each breath in,
Draw in this light and air of relaxation.
Each out breath,
Encouraging the releasing of all that no longer serves your highest good.
Giving yourself permission to be fully present with whatever arises into your awareness.
Know that underneath all the changing perceptions and sensations,
Emotions,
Thoughts,
Beliefs,
Images,
Colors.
There's an unchanging stillness that always exists.
As you welcome whatever is arising,
Your body and mind are learning to remain at ease.
Letting go of judgment and worry.
There's no wrong experience.
Whatever you experience is absolutely perfect.
And allowing all your senses to open wide.
Begin to sense the space in which you are lying or sitting.
The whole plane of contact with the surface beneath you.
Maybe feeling the blanket,
Pillow,
Eye cover,
Clothing on your body.
The air on any exposed skin.
And the warm,
Velvety darkness behind your closed eyes.
And look up into the warm,
Velvety darkness to see the faint light in the darkness.
It's a cool,
Soothing lightness in the warm,
Velvety darkness.
Now in your mind,
Make a picture of your entire body.
See your body from the top of your head to the tips of your fingers and toes.
And allow the picture to fade out of your awareness.
And place your full feeling attention on how your body feels.
Just notice the responses in your body.
Sensation is an expression of energy.
And maybe embracing the idea that all of your experiences are movements of energy.
Notice if you can perceive the space around you.
The space around you as energy.
Just feel.
Now expanding awareness outward and sensing the space above you,
The ceiling.
And the space to your right,
All the way to the far right wall.
The space to your left,
All the way to the far left wall.
And the space out past your feet.
The space above your head.
Sensing your awareness outward and sensing the energy of the entire space around you,
The entire room,
And all that you are aware of.
And now bring your attention back to your individual space.
Sensing your space within the larger space.
Noticing them separately.
And then moving back and forth a few times.
Your space and then the larger space of the room.
And now sensing them as one,
Aware of the expressions of energy as you observe with openness and curiosity.
And now taking a moment to set an intention for your meditation practice.
Maybe your intention is to gain a greater acquaintance with your energy and the energy all around you.
Or to gain some insight into the energies within you and your life.
Maybe it's to be present,
Awake and aware of your experiences throughout the meditation.
Whatever your intention is,
Take a moment to formulate it in a sentence in the present tense and repeat it in your mind three times.
Now allowing your inner resource to reveal itself to you as an expression of energy,
A representation of that place within you where you feel very calm,
Safe and nourished.
What arises naturally when you invite your inner resource to come forth?
A deep sense of support and security that is always with you.
Maybe your inner resource reveals itself as a place in nature,
A symbol,
A color or something else.
Let all your senses open up to the experience.
How does your inner resource want to express its energy to you?
And notice how the body starts to shift with the energy of this safe place.
Gain a real felt sense of the energy that's associated with your safe place,
Your inner resource.
And know that you can return to this safe place at any time,
Either during this meditation or in your daily life.
You will know it by its energy.
And now feeling into the energy at your heart center,
Listening.
Sensation is an expression of energy.
Sensing the energy in your heart center,
Holding only love and acceptance for yourself.
Welcoming what arises when you ask yourself,
What wants to be expressed through me in this lifetime?
What is my deepest heartfelt desire?
When you're in alignment with the energy of your heartfelt desire,
You feel harmony in your life.
Ask yourself,
What would bring me into harmony?
What experience would bring life itself into harmony?
This may arise easily.
It may not.
Welcome whatever arises.
Try to affirm this heartfelt desire in a sentence in the present tense as if it's already true.
As you affirm it,
Become aware of the energy contained within this deep calling and where and how you feel it in your body.
Feel it in your body as you repeat it several times to yourself.
Now let the sound of my voice become the sound of your own voice as we take a journey through the physical body and observe the energy that emanates from it.
You may feel something or nothing at all.
Whatever you experience,
It's absolutely perfect.
Bringing attention to the crown of your head.
Just by drawing your attention to the crown of your head,
You're making a connection to your higher self.
Moving your attention to the space at the center of your forehead.
Sensing.
Feeling the energy and sensations at the center of intuition.
Now drawing your awareness to your right eyebrow.
Sensing your way to the left eyebrow.
The right eye.
Left eye.
Right temple.
Left temple.
Right cheekbone.
Left cheekbone.
The nose.
Does one nostril seem more open than the other?
Air flowing in and out of the nose.
Feeling the sensations of the breath.
Sensations in the nostrils.
On the outside of the nostrils.
On the upper lip.
Are there any smells present?
Observing the life force within the breath.
How do you perceive the life force contained within the breath?
Breathing into the mouth,
The lips,
Tongue,
Inside walls of the mouth,
Solidity of the teeth,
Observing any taste present,
Sensing the chin,
Neck,
Throat,
Sensations within the throat.
Breathing into the right collarbone,
Shoulder,
Upper arm,
Elbow,
Forearm,
Wrist,
Palm of the right hand,
Back of the hand,
Thumb,
Index finger,
Middle finger,
Ring finger,
Pinky,
The whole right arm,
Alive with sensation,
Observing the energy of the entire right arm,
Moving awareness into the left collarbone,
Shoulder,
Upper arm,
Elbow,
Forearm,
Wrist,
Palm of the left hand,
Back of the hand,
Thumb,
Index finger,
Middle finger,
Ring finger,
Pinky,
The whole left arm,
Vibrant,
Alive with energy and sensation,
Sensing the chest,
The upper back,
The space between the ribs and the navel,
Observing energy as sensation,
Sensing the abdomen,
Middle back,
Lower abdomen,
Lower back,
Bringing attention into the right hip,
Right buttock,
Right thigh,
Knee,
Lower leg,
Ankle,
Heel of the right foot,
Right foot,
Sole of the foot,
Top of the foot,
Right big toe,
Second toe,
Third toe,
Fourth toe,
Fifth toe,
The whole right leg and all the energy and sensations present,
Just observing,
Bringing awareness to the left hip,
Left buttock,
Left thigh,
Knee,
Lower leg,
Ankle,
Heel of the left foot,
Sole of the foot,
Top of the foot,
Left big toe,
Second toe,
Third toe,
Fourth toe,
Fifth toe,
The whole left leg and all the energy and sensations present,
Just observing,
Awareness of the entire body,
Every cell vibrating with aliveness,
Energy,
Energy,
Welcoming all that is now present in your awareness while interweaving the energy and felt sense of your inner resource,
Feeling secure and at ease,
Feeling yourself as awareness in which all this energy and sensation is arising and unfolding.
Now simply draw your attention to your breath.
Just notice how you're breathing.
See in your mind's eye your breath flowing in and out of your body,
Strengthening your vital life force with each and every breath.
Feel the body breathing itself.
On each inhale,
You're bringing in energy,
Vitality and life force.
On each out breath,
Sense how the aliveness of the breath,
The energy,
The vital life force feeds every cell of your being.
With each breath,
Feel the subtle vibration of energy coursing through your body from the crown of your head to the tips of your fingers and toes.
Become aware of the warmth and aliveness of every cell.
And now moving awareness from one side of the body to the other with a natural flow of the breath.
On your next out breath,
Sense just the right side.
Stay focusing on the right side as you breathe in again and gently retain the breath as you shift your attention over to the left side.
Stay focusing on the left side as you breathe out and continue to observe the left side on the in breath.
Retain the breath gently as you move attention back to the right side.
Breathe out on the right side.
Breathing in on the right side,
Retain the breath.
Breathe out left side.
Breathing in left side.
Continue to breathe like this at your own pace.
And on your next in breath,
Gently retain the breath.
And as you breathe out,
Sensing the energy of the entire body.
Now letting energy,
Vibration and sensation be your guide.
What's calling your attention the most?
Be with that for a few moments.
Where and how do you feel this in your body?
Are there any thoughts,
Beliefs,
Feelings or images associated with this experience?
Or whatever is here.
And allow energy,
Vibration and sensation to be your guide.
What's calling your attention now?
Are you drawn to an area of the body?
Be with this for a few moments.
Where and how do you feel this in your body?
Are there any thoughts,
Beliefs,
Feelings or images associated with this experience?
Allow the energy to guide you.
Send attention once more to another experience.
Be with this for a few moments.
What is here?
Feeling your way.
And become aware of all that is now present in your awareness.
Feeling yourself as the one who is aware of everything that's now present.
Feeling what's present.
Then experiencing yourself as the field of energy and awareness in which everything is arising.
Now I invite you to locate an energy of joy.
Be attentive to sensations throughout your body of happiness and joy.
If it's helpful,
Recall a particular event,
Person,
Animal,
Anything that invites the feeling of joy and happiness into your body right now.
Welcome whatever emerges just as it is.
Experiencing the energy and sensations of pure joy radiating throughout your entire being,
Flowing through your torso,
Arms,
Hands,
Down into your pelvis,
Legs and feet.
Experiencing your head and face.
Radiant and alive with the feeling of joy.
Fully embodying the energy of joy.
A sense of being okay just as you are.
And dissolving into being pure awareness itself.
Open and spacious.
Pure light energy.
Awareness in which everything is coming and going.
Awareness in which everything is welcome just as it is.
Now,
Take a moment to revisit the intention you set for your practice today.
Try to recall the statement you made.
Maybe it was to gain insight into your energy or to just stay awake and aware.
Perhaps noticing the formation of an intention for the next few days.
Telling upon your inner resource,
Sensing the energy of your inner source of security,
Your place of ground and well-being.
Warm and at ease.
Providing a deep support and stability that you always carry with you.
Remembering that felt sense of your inner resource.
And from this place of grounded connection,
Feel into the energy at your heart center.
Recalling your heartfelt desire.
That which wants to be expressed through you in this lifetime.
Is there anything new that arises now?
Maybe some clarity.
Maybe not.
Just observe what is present.
And slowly and gently begin to bring yourself back towards the waking state.
Feeling what is present.
Sensing yourself in your meditation space.
How does the energy of your individual space feel now?
Sensing outward into the room around you.
How does the space around you feel now?
Is there anything that wants to be acknowledged or affirmed as you transition back to an awake state?
Observing if the body has a desire to remain still.
Or maybe to experience some movement.
Consider whatever your body is asking.
Breathing.
Staying connected.
Be kind and gentle as you return to life.
And maybe before ending your practice,
Experiencing a moment of gratitude for taking this time for yourself.
