Welcome.
This is Mary Theresa True,
And for Mother's Day,
I'd like to read a letter that I wrote for my grandchildren.
Letter to my grands.
I see the future in you.
You are the promise of everything good in the universe.
You are the hope and the presence and the power within every seed and cell that exists today.
I have some advice because,
Well,
I've been around a while.
Make sure that you have at least one person you can lean on,
Count on,
And believes in you at all times in your life because we all need connection,
Our hearts need connection,
Our bodies need connection,
And our collective hope needs connection.
You know what it feels like when someone tends to a cut or a bruise and gives you permission to cry?
At some point in your life,
You will be that for someone else.
There is this thing called loving kindness.
You've experienced it.
You most likely enjoy it.
At some point in your life,
Do that for someone else.
The world may seem confusing at times.
Know that you have the tools right inside you to help you through the difficult times as well as the good times.
Don't look outside yourself but within the whisper of your own breath.
Your friends may be unkind sometimes.
Love your friends and forgive them because you'll do the same sometime.
There will be times that life seems completely unfair.
Know that this happens.
You won't win every race or paint the best picture or write the best story or have the best friends,
But you will come to understand that you can be your own best friend as well as your own best competitor and it will be a productive competition because you will learn that you are doing it for yourself and that is all that matters.
Trust your inner voice.
Listen to the good parts and don't listen to the negative.
You are a good person and don't let anyone including yourself tell you different.
If you don't understand something,
If it seems unfair and confusing,
If the adults in your life don't help you through your confusion,
Ask someone else.
Don't stop until you do understand.
If we don't help you across that bridge of understanding,
We have done you a disservice and you deserve to have the best understanding that you can.
If you witness cruel and unkind people in the world and you will sometime in your life,
Try to understand the story behind their cruelness because there is in you a tiny part that has gone there before.
Never dismiss this,
But let it bubble up and be your teacher.
What you have experienced that you don't like can and will make you a better person.
It is not up to you to save the world even though at some point you will clearly know how to do it.
It is,
However,
Up to you to save yourself.
And if by saving yourself helps save the world in some way,
Then by all means do that thing.
Ask your heart,
Ask your divine,
Ask whatever you need inside yourself to guide you in all your choices.
You are the promise of everything that is good in the world.
You will see the monumental mistakes that adults have made and you will find in your heart how to correct those wrongs.
We did it for our grandparents and you will do it for us.
You will experience times of unimaginable joy and unspeakable pain.
Allow yourself to feel and experience it.
Believe it or not,
It will make you a better person.
You may not completely understand what I am saying right now,
But you will sometimes.
I might be gone by then,
But you'll know.
Be sure to have at least one person in your life at all times that believes the world revolves around you.
Not because the world does,
But because you do.
You make the world a better place just by being here.
I love you,
Grand Mary.
