Transcript

Start by sitting on the floor or in a chair,

Whatever is most comfortable for you.

And now allow your eyes to close and begin to focus your awareness on your breath.

Just inhaling and exhaling naturally,

Allowing your back to be upright but not rigid.

Just breathe in easily and effortlessly,

And breathe out easily and effortlessly.

Bring your attention on the sensations of breathing in your body.

And if you've noticed your mind has wandered,

Bring your attention gently back to the breath and the sensations of breathing.

Just settling into your body and into your breath.

Now I want you to imagine a beautiful park or your favorite outdoor setting.

Imagine yourself in this space,

Walk slowly and peacefully around and notice the smell of the trees and the flowers.

The feeling of a gentle breeze on your face,

A gentle scent in the air,

The feeling of the afternoon sun touching your skin and warming it.

That sense of awe and beauty at all you see around you.

Vibrant greenery and lush flowers in this beautiful outdoor setting.

As you continue to walk around this beautiful outdoor setting,

This beautiful park,

You see a bench in the distance and as you approach it,

You notice a radiant and beautiful person sitting there peacefully.

And as you walk closer,

You see that person is you 20 years from now.

And as you walk closer,

Your future self gestures you to come and sit down next to them.

Notice the way your future self welcomes you into this time and place 20 years in the future.

Notice how your future self lovingly puts their arm around you as you sit down to chat.

Feel their presence and calming energy.

As you see the face of your future self,

What do you notice about them?

Get a sense for their essence,

One of pure love and wisdom and knowing.

Now settle in and make yourself comfortable on the bench.

And as you sit,

Begin by asking your future self the following question.

What is it future self that you remember most about the last 20 years?

What is it future self that you remember most about the last 20 years?

And just taking a moment to listen to the answer.

What do you remember most about the last 20 years?

Now ask your future self the following question.

What do I need to be most aware of to get me from where I am to where you are?

Just listening to whatever your future self has to share.

What do I need to know to get me from where I am to where you are?

Now asking your future self another question.

What is holding me back from experiencing what I want in life?

What is holding me back from experiencing what I want in life?

In other words,

What do I need to let go of to experience the peace and quiet contentment that you embody?

Just listening to what your future self has to tell you.

What do I need to let go of?

Good.

Now ask your future self a final question.

Is there anything else you'd like me to know or be aware of?

Is there anything else you'd like me to know or be aware of?

Take in the wisdom of your future self.

And with a loving hug,

Bring this conversation with your future self to a close.

And thank them for being here with you today and for sharing their wisdom,

Which is your inner wisdom.

And gently get up from the bench and begin to walk through the park as you walk slowly and peacefully around.

Notice the smell of the trees and flowers.

That feeling of a gentle breeze on your face.

The afternoon sun hitting your skin and warming it.

And that sense of awe and beauty at what you see in the wisdom you have within.

Take a deep inhale and exhale.

And then gently inhale and exhale.

And slowly open your eyes with appreciation of your new wisdom.

Now is a wonderful time to write down any observations or reflections from this conversation so that you can refer to them at a later time.

What an extremely powerful meditation. I gained some insight out of this one, shed some tears (it was great to see my future self & realize how fast time goes), and felt great love from my future self. I intend to return to this guided meditation. Thank you. Today, 10/18/20 I returned to this meditation. I thought that I would do the 5 minute version, but that was too rushed for my current state of mind. I thoroughly enjoyed this 12 minute version again and came away with a deep sense of calm. Thank you๐Ÿ™!

I love the final suggestion of journaling all that arose. One thing that helped me and may help others was this - when I was unsure what future me would say, I imagined what present me would say to past me. Often times, the message from my future self was an extension of that.
