Welcome to this guided sleep meditation called the mice at autumn.
Let's begin.
Please fluff up your pillow in the bedroom,
Squeeze for better dreams you see,
And jump into bed and curl up like a mouse.
For a mouse can curl up so tight into a furry warm body.
Blink twice if you please,
Then close both your eyes.
Once upon a time usually begins a good story,
But I like to be different.
So this story begins with a powerful dragon that has a huge heart.
At the count of three a dragon will befriend thee.
One,
Two,
Three.
It's a white dragon,
Huge wings and a long tail.
The eyes are like a lighted flame and proudly enters your bedroom and puffs and blows all the cobwebs away.
Smile such a beautiful heart as you lay to rest and dream of such fun and shall watch over you until the morning sun.
Quiet,
It's time to listen and dream again.
About the mice in autumn.
Two thousand years ago the mice loved the farmers.
Great celebrations were held in autumn for food and all the farmers were ready.
Big,
Colourful,
Gigantic,
Huge rows of vegetables were ready for picking.
Delicious dishes could be made from it all,
Even for sheer fun because there was so much.
Lanterns were made with the humble potato and turnip and with the pumpkin too.
A great bonfire was held each year to celebrate autumn foods that would last everyone into winter.
Hearts felt warm and singing began the autumn party.
Mice love to sing the highest of notes.
Dancing,
Now that kept you warm and the fun of music.
And mice are such fast,
High energy dancers.
In many ways it was also about success.
That the farmers and the mice that lived in the same way.
That they were gratefully thankful for successfully producing the harvest food.
All good food comes from earth and so prayers to the heavens that life on earth was full of deep,
Wholesome goodness.
Though days are shorter,
The trees are spectacular.
Looking up with those mousy eyes at gigantic red trees and red leaves and yellow trees and yellow leaves and orange trees and orange leaves that crunch and fall down to the ground.
It is so colourful.
Autumn is messy like a big celebrated party and much later a bonfire was the perfect meeting point on a dark autumn night,
Giving warmth to each little face and hands.
Though not as tiny as the mouse and what fancy dress would they have had 2,
000 years ago?
Making home costumes,
Not from any pretty shops.
Something white to wear perhaps,
Or black perhaps,
Or just a funny hat.
At the end of the party everyone took home a lighted torch made from the harvest vegetables.
The potato was scooped out and gave a golden glow lamp to light the way home.
The parsnip too made a long tall lamp so golden white and of course the pumpkin so fiery orange that once lit up a lamp it did make.
And just before you stepped into your home you placed the fiery lamp on your doorstep to bless your home with love.
The autumn mice giggled with delight and did the same for their homes were your home and your food were their food too.
A mice doesn't eat much,
Not as much as a person,
And crumbs were half a week's shopping for some.
Now the extra delight on an autumn night were the stars themselves.
Every mouse knew that every star is bigger and brighter than the sun itself.
Although stars are so far away,
They are just perfect,
Perfect for bedtime star gazing.
This is taken very seriously.
All the baby mice slept under the star sleepy sky.
Twinkle and great star constellations could be seen in a dark night autumn sky.
And if the full moon came out it seemed like an incredible sun.
So bold,
So bright,
Smiling and looking you in the eye.
Moonshine on every pillow like silver dust.
And then the magical yarn.
Yarn good night.
Time to dream of colorful autumn mice.
