Hey friend,
Welcome to a little meditation on tending your inner child.
To get started,
Let's get comfortable,
Whatever that means to you,
Lying down,
Sitting.
And you might decide to wiggle around a little bit and get any of those antsy emotions,
Any of that tension in the body just moved out of the way so we can really come into the present moment.
Take a deep breath in through the nose,
And maybe sigh it out the mouth,
Be loud about it.
Let's do that again.
Sometimes kids can be a little weird,
Right?
Because we don't have those notions of social correctness.
So I welcome you to let any of these uninhibited feelings,
Sensations,
Ideas come to the surface and move them out.
And I know sometimes that can feel uncomfortable when we are,
You know,
Used to or programmed to suppress these feelings,
Suppress these urges.
But just for right now,
Maybe we can let it out.
So taking another deep breath in through the nose,
And with or without movement,
Funny sounds or a big sigh,
Just let it all go.
And you might take a moment to place your hand on your heart and allow the day and the surroundings to fade away,
Closing your eyes or resting your gaze on something so that you can really go within and tune into your heart center.
And in this place,
Perhaps we can imagine we are turning a dial going back in time,
Going into the mind,
The energy and emotion of our childlike selves.
And perhaps we can first turn to joy,
Recalling the things that brought us wonder,
Brought us joy,
Whether it was reading or climbing a tree,
Thinking back to those activities that made us smile,
Made us laugh.
You might also take this time to tune into the dreams you had as a child.
What did you think you wanted to do in the moment?
Maybe that was build a fort in the woods,
Or maybe it was to draw with crayons and pencils and markers all at once.
Maybe it was to put on your own little comedy show with your friend.
Maybe it was to save the world.
What did you want to do as a child?
And what were your dreams for your life when you were a child?
Did you want to grow up and have a family of your own?
Or maybe you thought you would have a hundred goats.
Take a moment to just tune in,
To remember,
Allowing the hand and your heart to bring that desire,
That childlike wonder and joy into the present moment.
To feel that childlike wonder and joy with every heartbeat in the present.
Perhaps you move your arms,
Wrapping them around yourself and giving yourself a hug.
You might imagine you're hugging your inner child.
And allowing the realization,
The remembrance that you are still a child.
That child is within you right now.
Maybe wanting to play,
To sleep,
To be held and loved.
With the next few breaths,
You might take note of the things this childlike version of you wants to do.
Whatever comes to mind,
No matter how silly,
How out there,
Accept what it is.
Allow it to be.
And bring it into your heart center.
Allow this desire to take root.
Allow a plan of how you can incorporate this into your day to begin to unfold.
And I invite you to give yourself permission to do whatever it is.
And if it sparks joy through the day,
Or as you do it,
Allow it to lead you to the next moment of joy,
To the next honest desire of your childlike self.
Allow your inner child to be present with you right now.
Taking a deep breath in through the nose,
Letting it out the mouth with any kind of sound.
Another deep breath in,
This time accompanying the exhale with some kind of movement.
Shaking it out,
Wiggling the fingers and toes,
And perhaps inviting any kind of motion into your body.
This could be clapping,
This could be swaying,
Dancing.
Allow these urges to come into the present and embody them,
Whatever that looks like.
Allowing it to be,
Accepting it,
Loving it,
Loving yourself.
I hope you have a beautiful day,
And to continue to tend this child within you.
