Ancestral Healing
This visualization meditation is a practice to invite all your beloved no longer present in the physical form to join you and heal past wounds. It's an opportunity to feel love, support, and forgiveness; to feel the honor of being able to heal your lineage and prevent further pain and suffering. You might choose to have pictures of your loved ones on hand, and/or a journal for reflecting after. Although this was created for Samhain, All Saints & Souls Day, and Dia De Los Muertos, you are welcome to use this practice whenever you want or need!
Transcript
Hello and welcome to an ancestral healing meditation.
You might like to have a few things available to yourself such as a photo of loved ones,
You might choose to have a journal and pen nearby for during or after the meditation,
And of course you might choose to have your water.
As we start I encourage you to find yourself in a comfortable position whether this is seated,
Laying down,
Being supported with pillows,
Blankets,
And beginning to tune into the body.
And I'd like to take this moment to remind you and encourage you to let anything that is coming up to come up.
Whether this is a physical sensation such as coughing,
Sneezing,
Burping,
Crying,
If you feel the need to sigh,
To sneeze,
These are all natural ways that things inside move outside of us,
That energy moves within us.
So I encourage you to allow anything that is coming up to come up and to allow yourself to release it as much as you are able.
With this in mind let's start with a slow inhale in through the nose and you might choose to exhale out the mouth and a big sigh,
Letting all the air out.
At this point you might choose to close your eyes or to focus your gaze on your photo of a loved one and alter or just a point where you can really let your eyes soften.
Taking another slow breath in and on the exhale allowing your body to relax as much as possible.
I'm going to start with a small prayer.
If there are any words I use that do not resonate with you just feel free to ignore those or you might choose to mentally replace them with something that does resonate with you and your beliefs.
Dear creator,
Dear goddess,
Dear divine cosmic universe,
Thank you for this moment right here,
Right now.
I invite you into this place with me.
I ask for your presence in my heart and in my heart and surrounding me that I may feel your love and with your assistance I invite in all of my past beloved,
All of my past relatives and ancestors,
Those that I have known and loved,
Those that I have known and struggled to love.
All of those that I perhaps never got the chance to truly know or meet.
May I be fully surrounded by all of these beings in their highest form of love.
I welcome in their energy,
Their love and their guidance for the highest direction of my path.
And for the rightness and goodness for all beings everywhere.
I thank you for your protection,
For your guidance,
For your love.
And I give gratitude for the love of all who have come before me and all who will come after me.
And so it is.
Continue to breathe in and out the nose and observe your heart space,
Observe your physical body and any sensations that might be arising.
Allowing all feelings to be welcome,
Whether that is hurt,
Anger,
Disappointment from past relatives,
Perhaps even frustration at the burden you now have to carry.
Because of their action,
Or inaction.
You might not be ready to forgive.
But you might be willing to be open to forgiveness at some point.
Honor where you're at.
If you can picture in front of you and around you all of these beloved beings,
Perhaps you are able to also feel their support.
To recognize that they had lives and struggles to live.
Perhaps you can observe that all of these beings are from love and you yourself are from love.
And you yourself are from love and you yourself are from love and you yourself are from love.
Your very existence comes from the love of all of these beings,
Generation after generation.
If there is known violence or harmful scenarios that you are aware of in your lineage,
You might also invite in divine love as an ancestor.
Recognizing that all beings at their core are love.
In tuning into this love,
Perhaps we can feel the support around us deepen.
Feel the support around us deepen,
Like a web being connected,
Slowly braiding into a blanket that holds us,
Supports us.
We might feel it wrapping around us.
And if this feels heavy,
If you're feeling a burden,
You might come back to the breath.
Back to the inhale and on the exhale,
Releasing any tension in the body,
Any weight in the mind.
And whether it feels heavy or warm,
Perhaps you can begin to tune into gratitude.
Gratitude for all the decisions that your ancestors have made.
Before you.
All of their decisions that have influenced your life and may have even influenced your own decisions,
Your own values.
Releasing any judgment of whether those decisions felt right or wrong,
But just knowing that those decisions led you to exactly where you are and you are exactly where you're meant to be.
You might begin to call into your mind any gifts,
Any burdens,
Anything in your lineage that feels like it needs healing.
Any shadows or stories that feel like they need to be addressed.
And rather than feeling the weight of the burden,
Feeling the grief and the sadness,
Which are all things that we have welcomed in,
As we welcomed in all emotions,
Perhaps we can begin to feel the weight of the burden.
And perhaps we can allow ourselves to see this as a beautiful birthright and privilege that we have the strength within us to face these shadows,
These demons,
These struggles.
Resources,
Tools,
And perhaps support that our ancestors never did.
That we have the capabilities that they never did.
And perhaps this thought can allow us to grow compassion in our heart.
Recognizing the limitations and struggles that our ancestors had and how they did the best they could.
As they searched for love.
As they tried to do their best.
You might begin to feel warmth.
To allow the compassion to blossom into acceptance,
Into appreciation.
And maybe tuning into the heart space,
We can feel our strength.
We can recognize that everything is going to be okay.
Everything is going to be okay.
And that the future might be even brighter than we could ever imagine.
That we are able to sink into this blanket to be held.
Knowing that when we're ready,
We have all of this support behind us.
All of this love,
All of this knowledge and experience at our backs.
You might once again look to these ancestors.
Feel their energy around you.
And observe if there's been any shift in your own heart,
In your own energy.
And what you feel you are receiving from these relatives in the beyond.
If your perception of the support and love that you are receiving from the other side is stronger than you imagined.
If you feel capable of moving through the burdens,
Struggles that have been passed down through this lineage.
Let's take a moment to visualize any of this hurt,
Any of this pain from the past.
Perhaps even limiting beliefs that have been passed down to us.
And let's imagine it as a big crack.
It might be a crack in the wall,
Ceiling,
Can be anywhere you visualize it.
You might see pieces falling away.
You might see pieces falling away.
At times it could have felt or looked like the crack was widening,
Turning into a gaping hole.
The wound of your ancestors.
You might see yourself walking up and placing your hands on this wound.
On this cracked area that's inviting your tending hands,
Your tending heart that's been waiting for you.
You might reach out and begin to draw your hand from one side to the other,
Allowing your love,
Patience,
And understanding,
Allowing acceptance,
And forgiveness to begin filling in this space.
And as the crack closes,
As the wound heals,
Nothing is left behind.
There's no scars.
Nothing is left behind.
There's no scar.
There's no evidence that it was ever there in the first place.
This hurt,
This old habit,
Or belief,
Or cycle,
Gets to be changed by your love,
Your commitment to this love,
And to the support that's always available to you,
Knowing that you do not have to do it all yourself.
You are always supported.
You are loved.
You are held.
You are loved.
You are loved.
And you are exactly where you need to be.
Once more,
You might look around at your loved ones,
At your ancestors,
Or maybe just feeling their energy,
And allow yourself to give gratitude for them,
To give gratitude for yourself,
To know that you are honoring them by honoring yourself,
Even if you're doing something different,
Doing something that they wouldn't ever even think to do.
You are honoring your ancestors when you honor yourself.
When you love and respect yourself.
You might place a hand over your heart,
Allowing yourself to feel this healing energy that you carry within you,
That is there all the time,
Available to be tapped into.
You might wrap your hands around your shoulders,
You might wrap your arms around yourself,
Give yourself a hug,
Give yourself love.
You might even say thank you to your past loved ones,
To your future loved ones,
And to yourself in this moment.
And to yourself in this moment.
Let's close with a small prayer.
Dear universe,
Dear goddess,
Dear friends and family who have come before me,
Thank you all for being here,
For offering your love and support and guidance.
Thank you for this opportunity to heal.
Thank you for the freedom to make new choices and to carve a path of my own.
May I always feel your love.
May I always hear your guidance.
And may I maintain the discernment to know when to listen and when to act.
Thank you for your lives.
Thank you for this healing.
May it help with the healing of all beings everywhere.
You might take a big breath in,
Perhaps hugging yourself a little harder.
If you did not feel anything energetically,
Know that that's okay too.
Come back to this as often as you need.
Revisualize healing the crack as often as you need.
May you be kind to yourself.
May you love,
Respect,
And cherish your life.
Cherish yourself,
Always.
May you have a beautiful day.
