Welcome to this meditation on the ancient Egyptian goddess called Nut.
Nut is the goddess of the night sky and she gave birth to all the other gods and goddesses in the Egyptian pantheon.
She is represented in the Milky Way,
The highway of stars above us in the dark at night.
She was often painted as a beautiful woman with wide wings that could hold her children expansively.
Sometimes she would be painted on the inside of the lid of a sarcophagus as if to let the dead know that they would be coming home to their mother.
This is a good meditation to do when you need a good mother,
A loving mother,
An ideal mother who can hold you even in your darkest moments.
Nut has the endless capacity to hold her children even into death.
She is as wide as the night sky.
Our human mothers,
Wonderful or awful as they may be,
Are human.
Their capacities are limited and they may not always be able to be with us the way that we need.
Nut can fill those spaces for us and be the mother that we need today.
To prepare for this meditation,
You may like to light a candle and have a journal and pen handy.
Settle into your seat,
Whatever it needs to look like today,
Or lie down and close or soften your eyes.
You could even do this laying on the grass at night staring up into Nut's body,
The night sky itself.
Acknowledge the land that you are on right now and your relationship with this land.
Consider your people,
Where they're from and what traditions you were born into.
And consider Nut's people from ancient Egypt.
You may or may not have a relationship with this part of the world,
So take a moment with humility,
Knowing that there's plenty you and I can't know about Nut's land and people,
But we can come to her with respect and a willingness to listen and to learn.
Now imagine a circle of protection around your body.
You could imagine a circle of light or salt or stones and clarify that this is a circle that will allow in energies of love,
Compassion,
Care,
And healing,
The energies of Nut.
And any energies that are not in alignment with your highest good right now,
Simply stay outside of the circle.
And then when you're ready,
Imagine the expansive night sky behind your eyes.
A sky with no light pollution,
Nothing in the world,
Nothing in the A sky with no light pollution,
Nothing in the way,
Just endless twinkling stars and a dark moon.
See the beauty of the sky at the edges of your vision,
Blanketing the earth with loving attention and care.
This sky is Nut,
The mother of everything and everyone,
And your mother too.
She loves you with the deep and unconditional love of an ideal mother.
She wants to know how you are doing.
She cares about how you feel.
She will give you space if you need it,
But she'll talk anytime you want to.
You may just want to rest with her,
Feel her loving presence over your body and your heart.
If you want to,
You can talk to her,
Tell her what you feel,
What's hurting,
What's confusing you.
You can ask her for advice.
I'm going to give you a little time to do that.
Listen,
Watch,
And feel.
Nut may not speak to you in words,
But feel her presence,
Her attention.
Attend to any images,
Sensations,
Ideas,
Or feelings that come to you as you listen to her loving response and advice,
If you want it.
And again,
We'll take a little time to listen.
When this process feels complete for you,
Thank Nut,
Your mother,
The night sky.
As you close this meditation,
You can move on with your life and focus on whatever you like.
But if you ever need to,
You can remember that the night sky is always there,
Holding you and all her children lovingly,
With endless patience.
Thank the land,
The air,
The night sky,
The beautiful Nut.
Offer thanks to anyone or anything else you'd like to.
The circle is closed but never broken.
Thank you for meditating with me.
