Hello meditator,
Thank you for joining me today.
In this meditation,
We're gonna begin to practice observing our thoughts without attachment,
Without judgment,
Without control,
Just becoming aware.
In his book,
The Untethered Soul,
Michael Singer writes,
You are not your thoughts.
You are simply aware of your thoughts.
Now,
As we move through our day,
Generally we have about 75 to 80,
000 thoughts,
And among that,
About 75% of those are negative,
Whether it's not being very nice to ourselves,
Or negativity about another person or a situation,
Or stress about a problem,
But once we start understanding that we are not necessarily all of our thoughts,
Once we start practicing just observing them,
Not creating a story,
Not creating a problem,
Just observing those thoughts,
We can start to kind of take a higher seat in our consciousness.
We can start to show ourselves more compassion.
We can start to create a little bit more calm and a little bit more peace in our mind.
So,
Meditator,
Let's give this a shot together today.
Let's start now by just kind of settling the body in,
Getting your physical body comfortable,
Making any adjustments you need as you take your seat,
Maybe finding a blanket,
Getting cozy,
Getting comfortable,
And then starting to let those eyes fall closed.
Let's begin to focus on the breath a little bit,
Just coming in and out.
Start with some nice big inhales and exhales,
Slowing down just a little.
Now,
As you rest here in your mind's eye,
See if you can imagine yourself sitting in a movie theater,
And it's just you there,
You're nice and cozy,
Your seat is comfortable,
You're just the right temperature,
And you're looking up at this big movie screen.
Now,
Images and sounds start forming,
As they would for any other movie,
But you can imagine them forming as they would for any other movie,
But you notice that the images and the sounds are your thoughts,
Whatever you're thinking is playing out on that movie screen.
Let's see if you can take a few moments here to just let that movie play.
Don't try to control it or stop it,
Don't try to take it anywhere or try to make it make sense,
Just see if you can take a moment to let this movie play.
Good,
Now if you've noticed that you're getting a little off track,
If you're starting to kind of take control of this,
Or if you aren't letting it play,
Or if you're examining what's going on,
It's okay,
It's good you noticed,
That means there's awareness,
But when you notice that happening,
When you notice yourself trying to control what's in your movie,
Just try to gently and kindly let that go,
And just bring your awareness back,
Allowing yourself to be a curious observer of what is playing in the mind.
Beautiful job,
Even if you need to keep bringing yourself back,
Great job.
Just starting to gain that awareness is so good for us,
It's going to make us so happy and so calm.
Now remember,
This is a great practice you can come back to any time,
Whenever you have a quiet moment,
You can close your eyes and just start to let that movie play out a little bit.
But for now,
If you're ready,
Begin to bring that awareness back to the physical body,
Maybe wiggling fingers and toes,
Maybe starting to deepen your breath or take a stretch,
Gently fluttering your eyes open,
Ready to come back to your day.
