Plant and root meditation describes how a plant grows upwards and roots into the ground, connecting to both earth and sky simultaneously. As you listen to this meditation, imagine yourself both rooting down and lifting up. Know that through you, sky and earth can touch as well.

Welcome to our daily meditation.

Find yourself in a comfortable seat supporting the sit bones,

Sitting up tall.

Let's start to feel the breath move through the body.

Letting yourself surrender completely so you're not so much breathing the air as in the life force surrounding you is breathing life into your body.

Watching as the breath comes in and expands lifting the spine a little bit taller.

Softening the shoulders down away from the ears.

And bringing calm lightness to the face.

Wiggle the jaw side to side.

Relax the eyes.

Clearing the mind of all thoughts,

All noise,

And all distractions.

Imagine that the very spot that you sit is so rooted in the earth that tiny little bits of roots begin to grow from the place where you sit.

Imagine them growing deeper and deeper into the earth with every breath out.

At the same time that roots go down and hold you deeper into the earth below.

And tiny little bits of plants grow from your shoulders and the top of your head.

You can imagine a bright yellow sun shining from above.

And causing the plants to grow towards the sun.

Imagining a warmth from that sun shining down on the forehead and the cheeks.

Every breath in.

The plants growing from the shoulders and the head grow taller,

Stronger,

And more vital.

And every exhale the roots from the sit bones grow down.

You're both uplifted and held in place.

You're both air and light and earth.

And starting to release the image in your mind.

Returning back to how the air flows in and out through the body.

Knowing that within us there's beauty.

There are all the elements.

Light,

Air,

Earth,

Water,

Fire,

Wind.

And together they all connect into one.

Taking a few deeper breaths.

Breathing in through the nostrils.

And out with a sigh.

Two more.

Last one.

Maybe wiggling fingers and toes.

Coming back into the world by blinking the eyes open.

Continuing on with your day or starting your day if it's morning.

Or preparing for a rested sleep.

Feeling a more peaceful state.

Namaste.

Thank you for this helpful meditation and visualization exercise. I never realized it before, but when I feel overwhelmed, I sometimes feel almost like I’m lifted off of the ground and struggle to get back down. Thank you for sharing this “tool” to help me get my sense of rooted again.
