When we meditate,
We are doing lots of things in the mind that is virtually unseen.
We are growing green matter,
Which is like the information highway.
We are building new neural pathways so that may fall quicker and deeper in concentration when the time comes.
We're learning how to regulate our emotions and look at things a little less biased,
A little more objectively.
And so the goal of our meditation this morning is to look at things a little bit more objectively.
Let's start either lying down or sitting upright,
Extending long through the spine but relaxing the weight of the body.
Let the eyes close and bring to mind the image of a mountain.
This can be either a mountain that you know well or a picture of a mountain that you've seen.
Imagining all its details,
Its colors,
Its textures,
Its peak or peaks.
Is it made of exposed rock or bushy trees?
Does it stand alone or is it surrounded by other mountains,
Sitting strong by its side?
And do you have an image of a mountain clearly in your mind?
Good.
And so looking at this mountain,
We know that it grounds down into the earth.
Its roots extend way beyond our sight.
We know that it stands completely still among all the changes that it encounters.
The weather changes,
The seasons change,
Wildlife come and go and humans visit and then they leave to return back to their land in their home.
But all the while this mountain stands in its spot,
Rooted and grounded and completely still.
Can we take a page from the mountain?
Can we learn how to be strong in our own skin and grounded in our place as weather changes around us,
As seasons come and go,
As uncertainty bounds?
Can we maintain steady,
Calm,
Grounded stillness amidst all of the chaos?
Keeping that image of the mountain in your mind.
And then slowly letting it go.
Returning back to the body,
Noticing the calm,
Cool breath like the wind.
Feeling a sense of groundedness as you exhale.
Knowing that every day is another day to return back to our center and awaken a sense of calm groundedness within us.
I hope you feel grounded and peaceful today.
Namaste.
