This talk is about Liminal time and space, which refers to times of transition in our lives in which we're leaving behind the old and preparing for the new. When you're going through this time of change and growth, it can often feel very uncomfortable, and unsettling, and make you feel off balance emotionally. I discuss how we can learn to accept and even embrace this in-between time. I walk you through a simple exercise for witnessing and releasing uncomfortable thoughts/feelings as they arise and discuss some practical things you can do to ground and rebalance yourself.

Hi and thank you for listening in.

My name is Jennifer Vroom and I'm a communication expert,

A meditation teacher,

And a spiritual coach.

And today's talk is about grounding yourself and finding balance in a time of uncertainty and change.

To honor your time,

I purposely create lessons,

Talks,

And meditations that are practical,

Accessible,

And easy to incorporate into your busy day.

My teachings and meditations are always inspired by my own life,

What I've experienced,

And what has been helpful and healing for myself.

For the last few months,

I've been on an extended soul road trip and have been traveling and moving to new locations each week.

I've been following my inspiration to lead me to the next place without knowing with much time in advance where I'd be going next.

So it offers me the regular practice of having to ground myself and rebalance myself.

There's this constant state of movement and living in the unknown and relying completely on trusting my own inner guidance.

So again,

I'm always,

Every day,

Basically,

Every time I move,

Especially,

Having to realign myself,

Find balance in each new place,

Especially when I first arrive to a new space.

And so I do this by being outside,

Having my feet on the ground in the new area I'm in,

Oftentimes through hiking and connecting with the environment,

But also through my meditations inside the new place where I'm staying.

And these are things you can do whenever you are traveling,

Or you're in a new place,

Or anywhere unfamiliar.

Or maybe you're not physically somewhere new,

But rather in an unknown place in your life.

Maybe you're in some kind of transition in your life.

You're in a place of uncertainty.

So all of these transitions,

Whether physical or not,

Can definitely feel uncomfortable,

Unsettling.

I think of it as feeling off kilter.

And so that's what this talk is about being in what's called liminal time or space.

I'm not sure if you've heard that term before,

But it's it refers to places of transition,

Where you're leaving behind the old,

And you're preparing to cross a threshold of some kind,

But you haven't fully arrived at the next destination.

These liminal spaces serve as passageways between two locations or two states of being.

So you're on the precipice of something new.

That's in process,

It's in a state of becoming.

So again,

As I mentioned earlier,

You may not be literally or physically experiencing a liminal space.

But you may be experiencing this emotionally,

Due to being in a time of transition in your life,

Needing to make a decision,

But not sure which way you're going to go yet.

Maybe you're on the precipice of some upcoming change,

A time of uncertainty where you're not sure of the next step.

And today's lesson is about learning to accept and even beginning to embrace this in between time,

Allowing that discomfort to come up,

Thinking about this as a time of growth.

Remember going through growth spurts as a kid,

And how awkward and uncomfortable this could feel?

Well,

The same can be said for these times of life changes in our adult years,

Where our souls are maturing and expanding.

And we feel the wobble for sure,

And the growing pains of this transformation and transition.

I want you to consider how can you turn your attention inwards and use this opportunity to prepare to ground,

Stabilize,

And to receive new inspiration to come before jumping into action.

And the questions I want you to consider are,

Can you be okay with something being undefined?

Can you be okay with not knowing exactly how something is going to turn out yet?

Not having the full details of it,

Because it's still in the process of becoming,

Being in the midst of your journey and on the way there,

But not there yet,

Even if it feels uncomfortable.

We live in a culture of wanting and expecting immediate gratification.

But can you start to feel an appreciation for this time,

This middle ground,

This liminal space that we're gifted with?

It's that between the thought and the actual manifestation.

And so that's the practice here,

Learning to embrace the unknown,

Learning to expand our comfort zone.

And we can do that through a grounding practice,

Grounding ourselves to establish a greater sense of stability when we're feeling off balance,

And allowing ourselves that preparation time,

Preparing ourselves by letting go,

Clearing our space,

Discharging and realigning our energies to a higher vibration.

So in other words,

We're,

It's getting us ready for all that's to come,

And allowing things to unfold one step at a time,

Without knowing every detail right here and now.

And being in this liminal space is usually accompanied by old beliefs,

Negative thought patterns,

Uncomfortable feelings,

All those things that just bubble up.

To help you through this,

Here's one simple exercise you can try when an uncomfortable thought,

Feeling or belief arises.

So first of all,

We pause,

And we acknowledge and identify what is coming up for you.

You can even say to yourself,

I'm feeling,

Insert whatever feeling,

I'm feeling worried.

I noticed myself feeling fearful right now,

I noticed this fearful thought,

Just identify it first without judgment or resistance.

Notice and observe it.

We start by not trying to change anything,

Just being aware of that discomfort,

And allowing it to be what it is.

Allow yourself to sit right on the edge of your comfort zone just for a moment,

Knowing this is temporary,

But it's a valuable experience that offers insight.

And you can compassionately say to yourself,

It is what it is right now,

And that's okay.

Thank you for showing me what needs to be released.

You can,

If it feels safe to you,

Close your eyes,

Or maybe just soften your gaze.

Allow yourself to take a deep breath in,

Expanding your belly.

Take a longer exhale out,

Audibly out through your mouth,

And do this three to five times,

Expanding your inhales,

Lengthening your exhales.

Each time expanding even more,

Lengthening out,

Breathing out,

It's helping to relax your body and your mind,

Relaxing through the discomfort.

And then simply set the intention,

Slowly expand your comfort zone,

Set the intention to breathe into and release any energies that are uncomfortable,

That are bubbling up in your mind,

In your body.

You can even begin to visualize this energy being released out with each breath out.

Keep saying the mantra,

If it feels good to you,

It is what it is right now,

And that's okay.

Thank you for showing me what needs to be released.

And know and feel that you can feel yourself shifting and feeling more comfortable,

A little at a time,

Finding a little more peace,

More solace with each breath in and out.

It's just a slow,

Gentle process we're allowing ourselves to go through.

And that's the exercise.

You know,

It's when we try to block or resist the feelings that they continue to feel uncomfortable.

So instead,

Here,

We're intending and allowing ourselves to become aware,

And then to slowly and gently relax more into the feeling.

And this is what allows it to release.

Okay.

And so even when you find yourself in this uncomfortable time in this uncertainty,

You can gently and intentionally begin to shift your perspective and allow yourself that grace to express and release your discomfort.

Again,

It's trusting that it's temporary,

But understanding it's also a necessary part of the process.

And again,

You can refer back,

Refer back,

Return to this talk,

Return to this exercise anytime you need it.

And together,

We can hold that space and continue to mold the vision for what is surely on its way to manifestation for you.

Okay,

Even just listening to this talk with me has allowed you to plant a seed.

Basically,

You're planting a seed in your mind.

It's a time where you need to nurture yourself and be loving and kind to yourself this time where it does feel very uncomfortable.

So it's being gentle with yourself and allowing time for this growth.

I think about it as like a time of gestation.

And I'm certainly feeling that for myself right now,

A time of gestation,

Like you're in the womb.

That's what liminal space feels like to me.

And it's a time that allows for continued growth and development,

Clearing and preparing.

But if you can allow yourself to surrender to the process,

You'll start to cultivate a sense of satisfaction and appreciation for wherever you are right now in your life.

And again,

That's one exercise you can do.

But I've also created a guided audio meditation as a follow up to this talk,

Which will guide you through the grounding method,

Which I personally use as part of my own practice every time I arrive at a new space.

And anytime I feel myself feeling anxious or off balance,

I use that.

So that is our talk for today.

And it is always my intention that the information and guidance you receive,

Be helpful and healing to you in whatever way is needed for your highest good.

And so that is my hope for you today.

Thank you for listening.

It's been my honor and pleasure to connect with you here.

So much to unpack in this very insightful and informative reflection on uncertainty. By allowing myself to be ok with not knowing how things will turn out and be curious about being in a state of becoming is challenging but so empowering. 🙏💜
