Hello,
Beautiful souls.
This is Barbara and welcome to an amazing night's sleep.
Thanks for being here for another in the series of Bedtime with Barbara,
Written by June B.
Today we will go out into the rain and see how we feel about getting wet.
Let's begin.
So get into your favorite sleeping position,
Making sure you are comfortable.
Close your eyes.
Relax your muscles.
And slowly imagine yourself melting into the bed.
Now let's go to your breathing,
Slowing down the heart rate.
And let's take some nourishing breaths together.
Breath in.
Breath out.
Breath in.
Breath out.
Breath in.
Breath out.
Last time.
Breath in.
Breath out.
Settle in now.
Get comfortable.
Let go of everything that happened today,
Right now.
And let's relax together.
Let yourself focus on my voice.
If your mind wanders,
It's okay.
Bring it back to the sound of my voice.
Keep your breathing slow and steady.
Let's go on our journey together.
Today,
We're going out and exploring how we feel about this liquid sunshine,
As I love to call it.
Sometimes we go out and try our best to avoid the rain,
Right?
At all costs.
So today,
Let us look at it from a different perspective and see if we can rewrite the narrative on how we feel about the rain.
So let's start at the beginning.
What is rain?
According to the National Geographical Society,
Rain is water falling from the sky.
Rain drops fall to earth when clouds become saturated or filled with water droplets.
Millions of water droplets bump into each other as they gather in a cloud.
When a small water droplet bumps into a bigger one,
It condenses or combines with the larger one.
Can you imagine all those little rain droplets bumping into each other?
It would be like if you were at a party.
The music is good and the place is packed with your friends.
You are all bumping into each other and having fun.
I think that is what all this water falling from the sky must be like.
Millions of friends just bumping into each other and laughing as they drop out of the sky and fall way,
Way down and hit the earth.
Not everyone's final destination,
Though.
Some will fall on the earth and nourish and care for plants and trees.
Some will fall and clean things,
Roads,
Paths,
And other inanimate objects that need it.
Some will fall and gather with even more drops to form rivers and streams.
Those journeys will be never ending as they will meet so many other friends along the way.
Then some will be there to be turned into drinking water for all of us.
Hmm,
Without the water,
We would be lost,
Right?
So I think for me,
That makes me look at the rain in a totally different light.
Most people when they look outside they say,
Oh no,
It's raining.
If we really look at how vitally important the rain really is,
Then we would welcome the rain and even pray for it to come.
Rain is responsible for depositing most of the fresh water on the earth.
So without it,
Well,
I'll leave that up to your imagination.
In liquid and frozen forms,
75% of the earth is covered with water.
Also,
Our bodies are made up of 60% water.
So go figure that we're constantly wishing it would not fall.
So today,
Let's embrace this amazing substance and relish in the fact that we have it at our fingertips.
I'm stepping out into the rain and looking up.
Join me.
Imagine the scene now.
The rain falls all over my face,
In my eyes,
On my forehead,
And cheeks running down the back of my neck.
Some of the drops get caught in my eyelashes,
And some drops run into my ears.
Oh my.
This water gets everywhere.
At first,
It was a little bit of a shock to the system.
Now,
Though,
It is as if my body and the rain are the same temperature.
Actually,
As I get more into this rain falling on me,
It feels quite warm.
Can you imagine this warm water running all over you?
You standing there at peace.
Not only hearing the rain,
How loud it is falling.
Is it pelting down?
Is it softly pattering?
Or is it so light you can nearly hear it?
What is the scene for you now?
The drops hitting all parts of you and everything around you.
Smelling the rain.
The smell that is kicked up when the rain hits the ground.
That fresh smell that comes with everything being washed away.
And a clean kind of smell.
Remnants of old earth and things that need to be washed away.
A new freshness that only a downpour can bring.
Can you smell it?
Also,
Feeling the rain running all over you.
Imagine you and the rain are at one now.
It flows so gently over you and connects with every part of you.
Outside and inside.
You and the rain are bonding together.
There is no you and the rain.
You and the rain are at one now.
And you are connecting to all those millions of drops that are friends and bumping into each other.
All friends together.
Enjoying the sensation of millions of drops connecting with you.
How do you feel about the rain now?
Think on it for a moment.
While you listen to the falling drops.
And find a deeper sense of relaxation for yourself.
I'm not sure about you.
I'm getting sleepy even thinking about it.
So I'm ready to let go fully.
And surrender to sleep.
Thanks for joining me tonight.
And as you slowly drift away,
Have yourself a great night's sleep.
I'm looking forward to seeing you again for another in the series of Bedtime with Barbara,

Rest easy.
Sleep well.
Good night.
