Accountability You tend to yourself,
Soothing your fears and calming your restless spirit.
You pray silently,
Writing your thoughts diligently in your journal,
Asking for salvation as you turn out the light.
You make your own bed each morning,
Knowing it's your castle which keeps you safe at night.
You scrub your skin,
Wash your tender body and moisturise every curve and fold,
Softly tending to your gentle earth.
You cook your food with love and eat at your table alone,
Knowing how to tend to your fertile ground with care.
You catch your face in the mirror and before the struggle takes hold,
You smile and look away.
You wrap your painful thoughts with tender awareness and tell yourself it's okay.
You commune with your higher self,
With a sweet longing for something more,
Not realising your daily practice is ripe with the mourners you crave.
You forgive yourself with soft strokes of apology.
You let the tears trickle at night and gather in honey-jewelled puddles on your pillow.
You journey with yourself with a simplicity which is stunning and raw.
You are in relationship with yourself,
So intricately conscious of every need and desire,
Met and unmet.
You are the best friend,
Lover,
Father and mother,
Loving yourself day in day out,
Even when the darkness sets in.
You turn inward toward the light,
Each time judge,
Jury and panel rise up to damn you.
You forgive each misdemeanor with tears of sadness and acceptance.
You protect your inner child each time anxiety and fear pay a visit.
You light candles to romance yourself like no one else can.
You forgive yourself for all the things you are not.
You hush out the noise from a chaotic world which tells you what you ought to be.
You smile at strangers,
Even though your heart carries the weight of a lifetime of challenge.
You hold the darkness when it visits,
Knowing it won't stay long.
You choose the soft warmth of light when there is nowhere else to turn.
And you bathe in the light of your meditation,
Yoga,
Chanting and prayer.
Because you are the light.
