This audio consists of a short talk on the benefits of meditation in cultivating power and ends with a short vipassana meditation (in silence). The emphasis of this practice is to develop compassion for oneself by not forcing outcomes or aiming for a specific goal within meditation practice. It touches on impermanence and transience - seeing life as it is and using nature to remind us of this everchanging state we live in. Find power through stillness, self-reflection and cultivating awareness.

There are a number of ways we can find power through meditation.

Recognising impermanence and working on our attitudes towards loss,

Bereavement and grief can help us to adapt to change.

All things life are transient,

There's no getting away from that.

You only have to look at any aspect of the natural world to see that manifested.

From the hardiest of rocks that eventually become sand on a beach,

To the most delicate of leaves which fall,

Decompose and return to soil.

How we live with this transience is the key to how involved and engaged we can be with all aspects of life.

This kind of knowledge is one aspect of finding power.

Developing the practice of building awareness of what's going on around us and around others is another aspect to finding power.

Awareness of sensations in the physical body can also be hugely empowering.

These subtle signals can make us far more intuitive and sensitive to life's ebbs and flows.

This means we come armed with an emotional intelligence and an ability to pause before we react to life's events.

This is vastly different to grappling and fighting with life's events,

Either trying to force an outcome,

Oppose a situation or better still,

Avoid it completely and then have it rebound on us emotionally.

The differentiation between power and force is best explained in a book called Power vs Force – The Hidden Determinants of Human Behaviour by David Hawkins.

Force is a movement,

It goes from here to there or tries to against opposition.

Power on the other hand is still,

It's like a standing field that doesn't move against anything.

Gravity itself for instance doesn't move against anything.

Its power moves all objects within its field,

But the gravity itself does not move.

Force always moves against something,

Whereas power doesn't move against anything at all.

Because force has an insatiable appetite,

It constantly consumes.

Power in contrast energises,

Gives forth,

Supplies and supports.

Power gives life and energy,

Force takes away.

So on the basis that we now have a beautiful definition of what power is,

We can start to make small inroads into our lives,

Injecting it with moments of stillness and self-reflection.

Because stillness is power,

Stillness gives rise to awareness and with awareness we can approach most aspects of life consciously.

And if by this definition power energises and supplies and supports,

Then this must be the very antidote to our busy,

Often unfulfilling lives.

Empowering ourselves to find power from the inside out is one of the greatest lessons to be heeded in our current time.

We live in a world of constant flux,

Pressure,

Competition,

Demand,

Availability and we cannot function healthily on this plane without a source of power replenishing us.

This power is within oneself.

The key to accessing this power is indeed through mindfulness,

Meditation and contemplation,

That is the inner work.

We are entirely self-regulating beings,

So how beautiful to understand that we can literally power ourselves.

Through commitment towards continued mindful practice and perseverance,

We can find our way through by finding our way inwards.

The more you practice,

The greater your awareness.

The greater your awareness,

The greater your power.

The greater your power,

The greater your resilience.

The greater your resilience,

The greater your engagement with life.

The greater your engagement with life,

The better chance you have of finding a way which fully honours,

Supports and nourishes you as the Divine Human that you are.

Namah Shivaya.

So,

As we enter this meditation,

I ask you to do the following.

Give yourself permission to hold this space.

Trust the process of what comes up and subsides,

The cyclical processes of all living things.

Don't chase an outcome,

Let everything be as it is.

Gently close your eyes,

Relax your body and bring awareness to the space of stillness you've bestowed upon yourself.

And in gratitude for this experience,

Allow yourself to drift into calm.

Bring awareness to your breathing as it is,

Neither trying to bring effort to it nor change its natural flow in any way.

Relax,

Let go,

Release,

Surrender.

Let thoughts arise but bring awareness to them,

Observe them and notice if there's a physical response and if so,

Bring awareness to these responses too.

The key is non-resistance,

You are not forcing,

You are simply still in this moment and bringing awareness to everything within you.

You you you you you you you you you you you you you you you you you As we're near the end of this meditation,

You can gently open your eyes and bring your awareness to your surroundings.

May I remind you that you are supported,

May I remind you that power through stillness energizes and gives forth to life.

May you continue to power and nourish yourself throughout your day.
