The Practice of Being Gentle
by Padma Gordon
In my experience, being gentle with myself and others qualitatively shifts things. It allows us to be in the moment, sense life's subtle nuances, and simply be more loving. We can be gentle in the most ordinary of acts, such as how we apply lotion to our face at night. Instead of doing it as a task to just get through, we can take our time and savor each moment. In essence, there is a distinct relationship between gentleness and time. In our goal-oriented culture which invites us to "hurry up," we may miss what’s happening right now, we may miss the chance to be kind and gentle with ourselves. So in slowing down, we can interrupt the impulse to rush and, instead, we can consciously choose a more gentle path. What actions might you bring some gentleness into today? *Gratitude to Marina Raye for sharing her music track “Awakening Dream” from the album Liquid Silk.
