When we feel overwhelmed,
Anxious,
Or shut down,
It can be very hard to connect with our body in a way that feels safe.
So this is a very gentle practice that helps you to locate a place in your body that feels neutral,
That feels okay.
Or that simply just feels less activated.
Kind of like a safe enough spot to rest your attention.
It's not about fixing anything.
It's more about offering your body and your nervous system a small anchor and a place that says,
It's OK to be here.
I am okay to be here.
And over time this practice can support trauma recovery by building your capacity to stay connected to your body.
Even in small moments,
And specifically in small moments,
Actually.
Because in trauma recovery.
It's exactly those small moments that can be the tip of the iceberg.
So I invite you to start this practice by lying down.
Or set whatever feels most comfortable to you and just let your awareness move slowly through your body.
And kind of do a little body scan.
In whatever way feels right to you right now?
And if you really activate it,
You can do that even while moving.
You can move certain parts of your body.
Sometimes complete stillness can be more harmful to the nervous system when it's really activated.
We're always trying to calm it down,
But going from extreme activation to silence can cause more anxiety.
So take your time and do the scan where you need to right now in this moment.
And now find just one place,
One spot in your body that can be the tip of your nose,
Your pinky.
Or somewhere else that just feels neutral.
Okay.
Maybe it's your hand or your cheek.
Or your knee.
And you just place your hand there and gently say.
This is a safe enough spot for now.
Just take that in.
It is safe enough for now.
Know you can always return to the spot when things feel overwhelming.
You can open your eyes if you close them,
Or you can go into movement if you calm down.
And just know that you can always come back to this practice.
Try and notice how it feels to be in touch with even a small sense of okayness in your body and maybe there's no need to force or to comfort.
But just try and recognize one safe enough place is actually enough for now.
This practice is here for you whenever you need to come home to yourself and when you have to come back to it again and again and again,
No matter how long it takes.
It's here to remind you and to remind your body and your nervous system.
That there is one place that feels okay,
And that you can start from there.
