There are so many different types of yoga,
Which can make it a little confusing when you're going into a new class,
Which is why I'm here to help explain.
So what is restorative yoga and what can you expect out of a class like this?
So I would say restorative yoga is the most relaxing class.
So what I would wear to a restorative class is something similar.
So really loose pants.
I would wear an even looser top,
Maybe even a hoodie if it's cold inside the room and just be as cozy and in your little cocoon as possible.
Restorative yoga feels as though you're meditating the whole time but you're just in slightly different poses throughout.
If you're going into a restorative class for the first time I would expect to use a lot of different props and hopefully your studio or in your gym would supply you with them.
So we're talking bolsters,
Blocks,
Even pillows and blankets.
It's very relaxing and very slow paced so you're gonna have a lot of time in between the transitions of each pose.
I would not be wearing your tight leggings and I would not be expecting a workout.
The purpose of this type of class is to really activate your parasympathetic nervous system.
So you really reach that flow state within yourself.
In this type of class,
You're not really pushing yourself beyond your limits.
You're trying to bring the ground as high up as you can to give you support and comfort.
So it gives you a lot of safety and security.
I wouldn't expect like a really deep stretch out of this either.
A bit more comforting.
I usually try to go to a restorative class when I know I need a little bit of soothing for my mind,
My emotions,
My spirit,
And when I need to meet myself with some softness instead of constantly pushing myself to be better and better and better.
It's just a place where I can flow into meditation and feel really safe.
I hope that this was helpful for you.
Enjoy your next restorative class.
