Hello,
I'm Seth Barker and welcome to this Great Day Meditation on Releasing Expectations.
Many of us walk around with expectations of ourselves and others.
It's not uncommon for us to hold onto something when we want something to go a certain way,
A person to say a certain thing,
Or maybe we want to accomplish a certain goal.
When we hold onto expectations and something doesn't go our way,
We open the door for suffering.
And as we continue to strengthen that story,
Strengthen that expectation,
The suffering gets worse,
Lowering our vibration and allowing the energy of frustration and anger to take seat in our mind.
Nobody likes to have such a busy mind that we can't seem to catch our thought,
And nobody truly likes suffering.
There's good news.
There's an easy way to soften the edges of this suffering,
And we do it by realizing that we don't truly have control over anyone else or how a situation really unfolds.
It's all divinely orchestrated.
Yes,
We should still show up,
We should still always do our best,
But once we've delivered our best,
We must relinquish control.
We must let go of our expectations.
When we hang onto our expectations,
We are hanging onto a story that we've already created in our mind.
So when that story doesn't become true,
It's a misalignment.
It's an opportunity for us to learn and grow.
When we consciously practice releasing expectations of ourselves and on others,
We step into more of our power.
We step more into the present moment,
And we allow life to be experienced as we witness the universe unfolding around us.
Let's meditate.
Settle in.
Find a comfortable place to sit,
And take a long,
Slow,
Deep breath in,
And let that go.
Another long,
Slow,
Deep breath in,
And release.
Another long,
Slow,
Deep breath in,
And when you exhale,
Fully relax.
There's nowhere else to be,
There's no expectations to be had here in this precious,
Present moment.
Think of an expectation that you've been having.
Maybe it's of yourself,
A partner,
A friend,
Coworker.
Maybe it's a situation or feeling.
As you begin to see this expectation in the mind's eye,
Allow the breath to create a little more space around it,
Like filling a balloon.
With each breath,
The balloon continues to fill,
Creating more space,
Calm,
Comfort,
And ease.
More space for the allowing of divine guidance,
Awareness,
And thought.
Allow the balloon to float wherever it wants to go,
Maybe up,
Maybe down,
Beside you,
Behind you.
Release the expectation of which way the balloon is going.
Continue to see that balloon float away until it is no more.
Once that expectation has been released,
And the balloon is far from sight,
It's time to sit in the space that it was once taking up.
The free space,
The space of no expectation,
The space of stillness and silence,
The space of pure potential.
Today we will use the mantra,
I release,
Simply hearing I on the inhalation,
And release as you exhale or release your breath.
Settle into a more relaxed state with each exhalation as you continue to release.
When you hear the bell at the end of the meditation,
Sit quietly with your eyes closed.
I'll watch the time you release.
So let's begin.
Settle into a more relaxed state with each exhalation as you continue.
