We don't practice mindfulness so that we can just get better at swatting thoughts away.
When we come back to our breath,
Or the body,
Or any of our anchors,
What we're seeing,
Smelling,
Tasting,
Touching,
Hearing our senses and our breath,
And our body in a felt sense way when we choose those anchors.
When we keep bringing our awareness to them,
Which is what the purpose of bringing the attention or our awareness back to the breath is.
Or sounds when we're meditating or the body.
Or in real life,
Paying attention.
It's what our eyes were made for so we could see what's in this moment,
Right?
And the more that we do that,
This is what mindfulness teaches us to do.
It awakens us from the ego,
From the old unconscious ways of living.
It helps us wake up from the dream of ego.
And it's simply bringing our awareness,
Learning that we can bring our awareness where we want it,
Whether it's the breath,
Or the cookie that you're eating,
Or the person you're with,
Or the stillness in the moment.
It's in.
Realizing by practicing,
Reclaiming our awareness from the mind by placing it where we want it,
The nose or wherever.
That we find a tremendous degree of agency.
And we begin to realize that we have been lost in the past and future,
As most of us are.
And we begin to wake up to the peace of the present moment,
And it's in using our anchors.
Returning again and again,
Constantly orienting towards the present moment through our senses,
Our breath.
And constantly orienting towards ease.
Compassion for ourselves and others.
That we can awaken.
To the present moment.
