
Christian Prayer For Deep Rest
Drift off into a deep sleep with this faith-filled Christian Meditation. The practice includes guided relaxation and body scan, prayer, and a reading of Psalm 23.
Transcript
As you climb into bed,
Take a moment to get comfortable.
Begin to arrive in a position that you can easily rest,
A place of comfort,
A place of ease.
Feel the covers,
Blankets,
Pillows supporting you like a cocoon of comfort.
Allow the day behind you to just fall off of your body as you settle in and prepare for rest.
Take a deep breath in through the nose and release it out of the mouth.
Feeling your body melt into the bed beneath you,
Feeling the weight of your body letting go,
Feeling any tension just melt away and allowing your body to land in a place of ease.
As you allow your mind to settle,
Just allow these words of this prayer to wash over you.
Dear God,
We come to you just thanking you for today,
Thanking you for all of the blessings that you have supplied,
The fact that we were able to make it through another day,
The fact that you were surrounding us like a veil of protection from things that we did not even know was trying to harm us.
We thank you for the doors that you opened as well as the ones that were closed.
We thank you for moments of peace,
Of ease,
Of support and understanding.
We thank you for your comfort and grace allowing us to make it through another day.
God,
We thank you for this time of rest,
This ability to recharge our bodies and restore our soul.
God,
We pray for an easeful and a restful night's sleep,
That when we wake in the morning we will feel so rested,
So at ease,
Ready to take on a new day.
God,
We pray for ease within the mind that we are able to let go of the day behind us as well as any expectations for tomorrow.
Let us just take this moment to unwind,
To find rest,
To find ease.
God,
We thank you for everything that you are doing in our lives now and what's to come.
In Jesus' name I pray,
Amen.
As you continue to allow yourself to completely arrive in a place of relaxation,
Just notice the breath moving in and out of your body,
Completely surrendering to the stillness,
Surrendering to ease.
Now begin to call out different areas of the body and just bring your awareness to these areas,
Notice any sensations and just allow them to drift off to sleep,
Bringing your awareness to your left foot,
Noticing any sensations in the sole of the foot,
Through the toes,
The top of the foot,
Shifting your awareness to the left ankle,
Up to the left knee,
Observing any sensations along the left shin or left calf,
Allowing it to drift off to sleep and following the awareness up to your left hip,
Noticing any sensations in the left thigh,
Hamstring,
Quadriceps.
Then following this awareness across your left hip to your right hip and down to your right foot,
Observing any sensations as you bring your awareness to the sole of the right foot,
The toes and the top of the foot,
Shifting your awareness to your right ankle,
Following this awareness to your right knee,
Observing any sensations in the right calf,
The right shin and allowing it to drift off to sleep,
Bringing your awareness to your right hip,
Tracing,
Observing any sensations in the right thigh,
Right hamstring,
Right quadriceps,
Following this awareness from your right hip all the way up the spine to your shoulders,
Noticing the breath moving as you trace your awareness across your chest,
Belly,
Shifting your awareness to your left hand,
Noticing any sensations in the left palm,
The left fingers and the left top of the hand,
Bringing your awareness to your left wrist,
Following it up to the elbow,
Noticing any sensations in your left forearm and allowing the arm to drift off to sleep,
Following your awareness from your left elbow to your left shoulder,
Relaxing the muscles of your biceps and triceps,
Shifting your awareness from your left shoulder across your collarbone to your right shoulder and down to your right hand,
Observing any sensations through the right palm,
The right fingers,
The right top of the hand,
Bringing your awareness to your right wrist,
Following it up to your right elbow,
Noticing any sensations in your right forearm and allowing your arm to drift off to sleep,
Bringing your awareness from your right elbow to your right shoulder,
Observing any sensations in the right bicep,
Right tricep,
Bringing your awareness from your right shoulder across your chest,
Following it up to your neck and your head,
Observing any sensations in your face,
Relaxing the muscles of your mouth,
Your jaw,
The space between your eyebrows and allowing your entire body to drift off to sleep,
Continuing to allow your body to relax in this space,
Finding any more grounding with each breath,
Inhaling,
Feeling the belly,
Ribs,
And chest rise and exhaling,
Noticing the chest,
Ribs,
And belly fall,
With every exhale,
Noticing your body growing deeper and deeper towards sleep.
Psalm 23,
The Lord is my shepherd,
I lack nothing.
He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside quiet waters.
He refreshes my soul.
He guides me along the right paths for His namesake.
Even though I walk through the darkest valley,
I will fear no evil,
For you are with me.
Your rod and your staff,
They comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil,
My cup overflows.
Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life,
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
Continuing to allow yourself to grow deeper into relaxation.
As you follow the breath in and out of your nose,
Continuing to notice the rise and fall of your chest.
Every exhale,
Noticing your body growing deeper and deeper towards sleep.
Begin to count the breaths,
Counting down from 10,
Breathing in and with every exhale,
Count down from 10.
