Psalm 116 verse 7,
Return to your rest my soul for the Lord has been good to you.
As you climb into bed and get comfortable underneath all of your blankets,
Covers,
And on top of your pillows,
Allow yourself to make any shifts that will allow you to land in a place of ease.
As you let go of the day behind you,
Know that it's okay to put all of your worries,
The do's,
And tomorrow to the side.
Find softness in your body,
Maybe first by tensing,
Tightening,
Clenching,
And then gently release.
Feel your body soften,
Letting go of the need to work,
Letting go of the need to do,
And giving yourself permission to just be.
Letting yourself to surrender to the stillness,
Taking a moment of gratitude,
Thanking God for allowing you to make it through another day,
To be able to find this moment of rest.
Proverbs 3,
24,
When you lie down,
You will not be afraid.
When you lie down,
Your sleep will be sweet.
Allow the muscles in your face begin to soften,
Relaxing gently the muscles along the brow,
Relaxing the muscles along the jaw,
Releasing the tongue from the roof of the mouth,
Allowing everything in your face to remain soft,
Letting go,
And finding ease.
Psalm 3,
Verse 5,
I lay down and slept,
Yet I woke up in safety,
For the Lord was watching over me.
Bringing your awareness to your chest,
Noticing the breath moving in and out of the lungs,
Releasing your body with every exhale,
Releasing,
Softening into the bed beneath you.
Psalm 46,
Verse 10,
Be still and know that I am God.
Bring your awareness to your arms as you find softness all the way out through your fingertips,
Requesting the urge to do or work,
Allowing your arms and hands to find softness and ease.
Matthew 6,
Verse 34,
So don't worry about tomorrow,
For tomorrow will bring its own worries.
Today's trouble is enough for today.
Bringing your awareness to your belly,
Finding softness as you continue to observe the breath moving in and out,
Feel the expansion and feel the release.
Psalm 91,
Verses 1,
5,
And 11,
Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
You will not fear the terror of night,
Nor the arrow that flies by day,
For He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways.
Bringing your awareness to your hips,
Feeling the grounding,
The routine in the bed beneath you.
Psalm 4,
Verse 8,
I will both lay me down in peace and sleep,
For Thou,
Lord,
Only maketh me dwell in safety.
Bringing your awareness to your legs all the way out to your feet,
Feel the lightness as you soften all of the muscles in the legs and in the feet.
Matthew 11,
Verses 28-30,
Come to me,
All you who are weary and burdened,
And I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me,
For I am gentle and humble in heart,
And you will find rest for your souls.
For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.
Observing the softness and heaviness of your body,
Feeling your breath begin to slow,
Feeling yourself growing closer and closer to sleep.
John 14,
Verse 27,
Peace I leave with you,
My peace I give you.
I do not give to you as the world gives.
Do not let your heart be troubled and do not be afraid.
Feel the comfort of the bed beneath you,
Carrying you like a cloud,
Setting you up in a place where you can get restful,
Easeful sleep.
Peter 5,
Verse 7,
Casting all your anxieties on him because he cares for you.
As you continue to allow your body to feel heavier and heavier,
Feel your body drawing closer to sleep.
As you allow the bed that's like a gentle cloud or God's hand,
Know that it's okay to give yourself permission to rest,
Thanking your body for all of the work that you've done today.
Thanking your mind for all of the work that you've done today,
Thanking your heart for all of the work that you've done today.
Know that it's okay and you can give yourself permission to find deep,
Restful,
Easeful sleep.
From 1-16,
Verse 7,
Return to your rest,
My soul,
For the Lord has been good to you.
God to you.
Amen.
