Welcome my darlings to a meditation for midsummer.
The festival of midsummer,
Also known as summer solstice or litha,
Is the longest day of the year and with this day brings celebrations of abundance,
Light and warmth.
So let's begin our joyful journey by finding a comfortable place.
Sit or lay down and take some nice easeful breaths.
Maybe we close the eyes or let the gaze be soft.
As we take our calming breaths we begin to calm the mind a little,
Setting aside the busy thoughts of the day.
Just taking some time to relax in this place.
Allow the muscles of your body to relax.
As body,
Mind and breath find a little peace in these precious moments where there is nothing you need to do,
Nobody you need to be.
Just a little time to find some stillness as we acknowledge this special time of year.
In our minds eye we will envisage that we are in a beautiful garden on a midsummer's day.
The sky above us is blue and the sun is radiating warmth and light upon us.
The breeze is warm and the air is laden with the beautiful scents from this garden.
You might smell beautiful roses or honeysuckle,
Maybe a little lavender that is swaying in the warm breeze.
And the bees are dancing above the flowers and butterflies flutter on this beautiful,
Warm sunny day.
In this beautiful garden you see blooms and blossoms of every colour.
There is such a sense of abundance in this place.
The earth is crowned in all her floral beauty as flowers and trees,
Birds and butterflies and bees dance and sway in the light and the warmth.
As you wander through this beautiful garden you come to some kind of gateway.
It might be a beautiful arch decorated with roses.
It might be a gateway carved from a hedge or a great tall wooden door in a stone built wall.
There may be a signpost or symbol of some kind to guide you to this place.
It may be hidden amongst ivy.
But you are drawn to this gateway.
It's a place that you wish to pass through and discover what lies beyond.
If it is a door before you then allow yourself to easefully open the door or to pass over the threshold of the gateway or through the archway of roses.
And as you step through this gateway you are greeted with the most glorious sight of a garden that seems ancient,
Undisturbed by time.
Great marble columns line a courtyard and at the centre a grand fountain.
Sparkling crystal waters dance under the sunshine and create beautiful soothing sounds of water splashing.
Tinted lilies grow at the bottom of the fountain and they bloom with beautiful pinks and whites.
You are drawn to sit on the edge of the fountain.
It is carved marble,
Smooth and wide,
Allowing you to sit and look into the beautiful waters of the fountain pond and feel just a little gentle cool spray from the dancing waters.
As you gaze at the water lilies you might even spy a little dancing fish in the water or a frog leaping from lily pad to lily pad.
Maybe you spot a dragonfly dancing and skimming over the water.
These water lily flowers,
Also known as the lotus,
Are symbols of enlightenment and abundance.
One lotus flower in particular draws your attention,
It might be a particularly bright colour,
A little larger than the others.
Maybe it even seems to sparkle under the sun's rays.
This beautiful flower with this union of light and water gently unfurls,
Slowly,
Petal by petal.
As the last petal unfurls,
A beautiful gift lies within.
It is a beautiful necklace,
A chain of gold that glints so brightly in the sunlight.
On the chain of gold is a pendant.
This pendant is something that means something to you.
It may symbolise somebody you love or something that brings you joy.
It is encapsulated in bright shining gold,
So it is illuminated so brightly here within our lotus flower.
With joy,
You pick up this beautiful necklace and place it around your neck.
It is warmed by the light of the sun and you feel radiant,
Both by wearing this beautiful necklace and also by being reminded of the things that light up your life and bring you joy and light and abundance.
It is a beautiful necklace,
A chain of gold that glints so brightly in the sunlight.
And rising from your restful place by this fountain,
You turn to leave this beautiful sacred space of water lilies and marble and fountains and once more pass over your threshold through the gateway back into our beautiful lush garden of flowers and plants and trees.
And maybe everything looks just a little brighter,
A little more joyful as you bask in the light and the colour.
To finish this beautiful meditation today,
I will just let the music play for a few more minutes so that you can bask in this sense of light,
Of love,
Of abundance.
And to let you know when the practice is finished,
I will play a little chime.
You can stay in this restful place as long as you wish.
A joyful,
Light and abundant midsummer to you all.
Thank you.
