A Meditation: Cord -Cutting Of An Unhealthy Relationship

Over the next 30 minutes, we will offer an energetic cord-cutting practice to release yourself from the grip of this relationship. We guide you to breathe deeply, feel into the body, and notice what is arising from this relationship. When and if you are ready, we will guide you to visualize cutting energetic ties with this person or being and embrace a future filled with self-love and healthy connections. Take time to journal, listen to music, drink water, and enjoy nature afterward to fully feel the space you have created. Welcome to a meditation to support you in releasing an unhealthy relationship.

I will be offering a cord cutting to release yourself from the grip of this relationship.

As we go into this meditation,

I invite you to be really kind to yourself first and foremost.

Just feeling into your heart and your body right now and knowing and remembering that at any time if this doesn't feel right,

You can always open your eyes and know that my language is simply a guide.

However,

This is for you to check in with yourself,

For you to ultimately say what you're willing and open and available for.

I am simply here to offer some metaphors to support you in feeling what's happening and going on in the body.

So that if it's time to release this relationship,

You can,

But only you will know when you're ready.

Let's take a few deep,

Slow breaths to begin.

Finding yourself in a comfortable seat or laying down or maybe even standing.

If it feels comfortable,

You can soften your eyes closed or you can allow for your gaze to land gently in front of you.

Breathing in through the nose for the count of five and out of the nose for the count of six.

Keep going like this.

As you breathe deeply,

Allow your spine to lengthen on the inhales and letting your shoulders relax on the exhales.

Each exhale releases tension in the body.

For this meditation,

I invite you to stay as still as possible until it is time to cut the cord.

I will cue you when it's time to move and energetically cut this cord.

Cords and energies are connected to us all the time and some cords are stronger than others.

It's an energetic frequency that comes into the body and at times they're not actually supportive for us to be tied.

There comes a time in a relationship when a relationship is no longer serving us that we just cut that energetic cord.

Tune into who comes to mind,

An energy that isn't serving you anymore.

Perhaps there's someone in your life where you feel that they cast a shadow onto you.

Or you feel shadow parts of yourself,

Parts of yourself that you're repelled by.

I don't like that.

And notice that it's bringing up something in you.

This relationship is showing you something about yourself.

And bring some kindness towards whatever's arising as you do this.

Perhaps this shadow is cast by fear and sadness of knowing that it is time for the light of your true self.

The self that is free of this harmful relationship.

It's time for this person to go.

This being to go.

Perhaps it feels like this person has held power over you.

You've given your agency,

Your self-knowledge,

Your self-respect away to this person.

And now you're ready to release its grip.

As you breathe,

Maybe you notice in the body where you feel some gripping,

Some tension,

Some sensations.

And just allow for your awareness to rest there for a few long,

Deep breaths.

Noticing what happens in the body as you feel the sensations move.

And with these sensations,

I invite you to bring them down the body,

Out of the root chakra,

Where you are seated,

Where you feel yourself on the floor,

On the ground,

And send this energy down into the earth.

Using your imagination,

Turning on your visualization mind,

Just playing with this idea of taking this shadowy grip and sending it down the body into the earth.

And feel how the earth recycles,

Composts the energy moving through the body.

And as you're feeling into this relationship,

See if there's anything that needs to come forward,

Anything that needs to be seen,

Anything that needs to be recognized,

That's ready to be moved,

Allowing for the emotions to be just as they are.

Noticing what arises in the body,

Noticing where there's movement and where there's sensation and where there's story tied up in this experience.

And on each exhale,

Move it out of the body and send it into the earth.

Breathing in and releasing on the exhales.

See if you can feel this energy from this person and just call this energy to move down through your body,

Through this cord into the earth.

She can hold it for you,

Mother Earth.

She can hold it and you don't need it anymore.

But check in with yourself.

Trust yourself.

Taking a few more moments to see if anything else about this relationship might need to come forward.

Any thoughts from the busy mind,

The ego mind that tells you perhaps that this relationship is unhealthy,

But we've been in the relationship for so long,

But they know me so deeply,

But maybe it will get better,

But so on and so forth.

See if there's anything else that might want to be moved through the body and the psyche and the mind and the spirit.

If there's anything else,

Allow for it to be present.

See if you can greet whatever is arising with a kindness towards yourself.

And on the exhale,

Send it down through your root chakra into the earth.

It's time for you to speak your truth,

For you to be honest,

For you to trust your deep knowing that this person has no place in your life anymore.

That's it.

No more.

This unhealthy relationship needs to go.

And as you send this down into the earth,

Notice what happens in the body.

Taking your time with this,

Starting to notice this cord that has been created,

Moving it out of your body,

Asking for anything else that is still wrapped up in your body,

In your mind,

In your psyche to move through,

Down and out of you.

You need to do this several times,

Moving this toxic energy of this person out of the cells of your body.

And let it just wash through you.

Any place where it gets stuck in the body,

Where you feel stuck energy,

Just send your breath there.

Now I'd like for you to call your energy back to you.

All your energy.

So you are fully full of you.

It's as simple as saying,

I call myself back.

Everywhere I've left my energy,

I invite my energy to come back to me.

Start to notice what it's like to realign where you call yourself back.

Calling yourself back to your truth,

To your center,

To your deep knowing of what is good and healthy for you.

As we prepare for the cord cutting,

I'd like for you to use your imagination and see if you can actually visualize this cord that's coming out of your body and going into the earth.

What does it look like?

Does it have a color?

Does it have a texture?

Is there sensation?

Being kind to yourself as you see this cord of this person ready to be cut.

And however it looks,

Just really letting yourself feel what it's like to see the parts of this being that are now externalized from the body.

They don't have a place in you anymore.

And now would be a great time to say thank you.

Goodbye.

Thank you for the lessons.

Time to go.

Tune into the language that feels best for you.

I'm going to give you a few moments of silence as you say goodbye to this energy,

And I will instruct you for how to cut the cord in a few moments.

Tune into what you would like to use to cut this cord in your mind's eye,

Imagining whatever it is that feels right for you in your relationship to sever the ties.

And when you are ready,

You can take your fingers as if your peace fingers are scissors.

And when you are ready,

You can reach down in between your root and the earth or wherever you feel this cord and you can cut it.

You can do that now.

Notice what it's like to release this cord.

Remembering to breathe.

As you cut the cord,

Feel yourself breaking free.

As if you are coming truly back to yourself.

See if you can feel this sense of freedom as you emerge out of the darkness and into the sunlight.

Feeling the spaciousness around you that being free from this person provides you now.

Perhaps you see yourself as a seed bursting through the earth out into the world,

Ready to embrace the possibilities that await you with all the people who love you so much who want to be your friend,

Who want to support you,

Who want to wrap their arms around you,

Who have your best interest in mind,

The ones who love you unconditionally,

And that you love you unconditionally by letting the people who don't go.

Feel the energy coursing through your body as you step into a future filled with nourishing relationships and a career that is growing with love and easeful direction.

Your true authentic self gets to be expressed when you're around and supported by people who love and support you and you get to choose who you spend your time with and who gets your sacred energy.

Take some time and let in this feeling of new life in your body and call yourself back again.

Call yourself back.

Come on,

Full,

Authentic,

Bright,

Beautiful self.

Come on.

We want you with us here now.

Feel the space that you have created.

Feel the endless possibilities of your life that are now open to you.

You are no longer a prisoner of the past,

But a free spirit ready to soar out into the earth.

Maybe you dance and rock from side to side,

Noticing what it's like in the body to be free.

Take a final few breaths and really anchor yourself into this feeling of freedom and empowerment,

Knowing that you can come back to you and do what is best for you whenever for as long as you live.

And maybe beyond.

Take a moment and just ask yourself while we're in this quiet space,

What do you need from me,

Self?

Asking yourself what you need from yourself,

If anything.

This can be a lot of movement physically,

Spiritually,

Emotionally.

I invite you to,

When you end this meditation,

Drink a lot of water.

To listen to music and move your body.

To get outside.

To journal about your experience and really let it go.

Let it move through the body.

You may have to do this a couple of times.

When you're ready,

Starting to bring some movement to the body if you haven't already.

Allowing for the eyes to start to blink open.

Stretching.

And saying thank you to yourself for this courageous act that you just performed.

Good job.

Sending you metta,

Loving kindness and peace as you continue to be and feed relationships that serve you.

May we all keep doing that.
