Welcome to a meditation on digestion.
Our digestion is so important and it's valuable for us to take the time to tune into this part of our body that works so hard for us every day and pay some close mindful attention there.
Set yourself up in a comfortable position.
Maybe your body wants to lay down today.
Maybe you'd like to sit up tall.
Maybe you're on the floor or a cushion or snuggled in on the couch.
Maybe you're in nature.
Check in with yourself and see where you might want to be today.
Taking a few deep,
Slow breaths,
Breathing in through the nose and breathing out through the nose,
Following your breath,
Elongating the inhales and exhales,
Settling into where you are right now.
Settling into the moment and turning your attention and intention towards your digestion.
Maybe you place a hand on the belly or on the heart or both.
Notice what happens to your hand as you breathe in and expand the belly out and you breathe out,
Contracting the belly button in towards your spine.
Noticing what your digestion feels like today,
How this body of yours feels today.
Maybe taking this opportunity to slow down and be with this body.
As you tune into your digestion,
Perhaps you get curious about what your gut might be saying,
If anything.
What the food you've eaten feels like,
The water that you drink feels like,
The tea,
The coffee,
Whatever you have put in your body over the last 12 hours or so.
Just being grateful for how your body turns this food into fuel.
Noticing how your body turns this water,
Filling 75% of this body,
Keeping us functioning and alive on this beautiful planet.
Noticing any body sensations that are presenting themselves and greeting them with an open awareness.
Maybe you notice a dry mouth.
Maybe you notice a burp.
Maybe you notice movement in your stomach,
Making room for all of it.
Maybe you're curious to ask yourself,
What am I digesting today,
Physically,
Spiritually,
Emotionally?
And how can you create space for that digestion to simply happen?
The body really does know just how to do it,
Bringing a sense of,
No matter what your sensations are,
A sense of gratitude towards this body that's figuring it out and that's remembering just how,
How to keep what we need and let go of the rest.
Keeping mindful awareness on the breath,
In and out the nose.
Thank you body,
Thank you friends.
