So as you begin,
Seated comfortably,
Standing or lying down,
You may close your eyes and go into a place of quiet stillness,
A space without darkness,
Without light,
Without images,
A space behind your eyes that is calming,
Settling into your hips,
Relaxing your feet and legs,
Softening your shoulders and arms,
Letting the skin and muscles of your face fall into a relatively neutral expression.
If you sit or lie down or are standing with your palms up or out,
It usually helps your spine to extend and your shoulders to loosen downward.
Take note of where your breath is at this very moment as you enter into this meditation.
Just taking stock of its volume in your mental ledger,
Not with judgment,
Just noticing.
Okay.
See if you can make your breath 10% deeper,
10% fuller,
10% slower.
Okay.
Soothing into your body,
Your environment at this moment.
See if you can slow down just a little more as you let go of distractions,
Preoccupations or anxieties.
Let them drift off.
Enjoy the stillness,
The absence behind your eyes.
And in your mind's eye,
Light one small delicate light,
A tender candle.
Focus on.
As you breathe,
Take in the radiance of that candle like the radiance of your soul and spirit.
Now,
Just to the right of that first candle,
Illumine a second candle in your mind.
The light is growing.
Your spirit is increasing in radiance as you breathe.
Let the two candles fill you up with light.
Breathing slowly and surely.
To the right of those two candles,
Light a third in your mind's eye.
Slickering but strong,
Increasingly bright in the company of the others.
Accept the beauty of that light as a mirror of the radiance already within you.
Breathe it in.
Just to the right of those three candles that are already lit,
Light a fourth candle glowing and shining.
The light is getting brighter.
Your soul filled with light.
As you continue to breathe.
To the right of those four candles,
Light a fifth.
They're all shining so bright,
Almost starting to dazzle your eyes and your spirit.
Follow those candles within as you breathe.
Breathe deeper still.
To the right of those five candles,
Shining and bright,
Carefully light a sixth.
Most painfully pleasant to the eyes.
Six bright candles shining on you and shining from within you.
Your breath is slowing down and your body is becoming soft as you enjoy the light of those six candles.
There are six bright candles within you.
Now light a seventh just to the right of them.
Shining and shining.
The brightness of the light lifting you up in joy.
Waving and smiling at your inner self.
Starting to breathe.
Coming back home to your self and your experience of these lights.
Linking on the brightness of those seven candles.
Now light one final candle.
Gently illumine the eighth candle.
They all shine so brightly together.
Breathing.
Feel that brightness and intensity just filling you up and lifting you up.
As you breathe,
Just float on that light.
Continuing to breathe and drift with the candles that are the light within you.
