Rainbows are mysteries. Spiritually and scientifically, they are a source of wonder and delight. Let's envision a rainbow together, and hear what it's teaching us. Based on the Jewish prayer for rainbows, we will find that rainbows offer a promise, a secret, and a gift. This track contains ambient sounds in the background

Begin comfortably.

Find your seat,

Your standing,

Or your bed.

Start to notice the points of contact between you and your clothing and your furniture and the ground.

Maybe your hip points,

Maybe your back.

Just notice where you come into this moment.

Start softening,

Softening through your scalp,

Softening in your neck,

Your jaw.

Maybe allowing yourself a small smile to encourage your body to feel joy and gratitude,

But also to relax.

Slowing down,

Softening in your shoulders,

Letting your arms and chest get heavy,

Settling down into this moment that will be together,

Letting go of past.

I'm not concerning yourself with future,

Just settling in.

When you're ready you can close your eyes and let your mind drift.

You start to feel your body drifting a little,

Almost sleepy.

Let yourself become a little disoriented,

Non-cognitive.

Start to center yourself in your breath,

In your body,

Noticing that rather than being paralyzed by fear,

Insecurity,

Or anxieties that everyone has.

Sowing down your breath,

Finding your way into a stillness and a silence,

Maybe even a touch of boredom.

Those are all underrated things.

Turning into your breath where it is,

Slowing it down,

Getting deeper.

As you continue easing into your body,

Imagine a favorite place outside.

Central Park,

Grand Teton,

A cove in the Pacific Northwest.

Just draw to mind a beautiful space where you can see an expansive sky.

As you continue to slow and deepen your breath,

In your mind's eye,

Fill out the image of that special place.

Give it color,

Shape,

Lines,

Curves,

Other sounds and smells you can call to mind.

Drawing in,

Settling down,

Add a few simple light clouds at the periphery of the image,

Not menacing,

Not thunderous clouds,

Just passing white simple clouds.

In the trail of the clouds,

Imagine a rainbow.

Red,

Orange,

Yellow,

Green,

Blue,

Indigo,

Violet,

All the colors refracted.

Continuing to breathe.

Could be a small rainbow,

Could be a full and bright rainbow,

Even a double rainbow.

Whatever fits this image in your mind.

Narrow the focus of your mind's eye and your attention directly toward the rainbow.

Maybe even as narrow as one of the color bands of the rainbow,

But draw into it.

Focus.

Attend right to it.

Turn yourself to it.

It's going to tell you something.

A secret.

Listen.

Listen very carefully.

Turn all your attention and focus toward the rainbow.

It's going to share a message.

Listen for it.

What does it say?

Feel yourself being drawn upwards,

Up,

Up,

By strings and bands of light levitating you into the cloud and rainbow,

Into the sky,

Into the core of the experience of rainbow.

It's myth and mystery floating.

.

.

.

In the heart of that mystery,

From your own heart,

Inside you,

There is a promise.

It may be connected to the secret of the rainbow,

It may not.

.

.

.

.

Find the promise to give.

Wrap it up.

Gently deposit that promise into the rainbow.

.

.

.

Returning to your breath.

.

.

.

Continuing to breath in deeply.

And breath out slowly.

.

.

.

You've heard a secret,

Deposited a promise,

And now there is a gift that you can share.

.

.

.

Maybe a wisdom.

As the rainbow sheds and shares light and color to every horizon,

Find yourself rippling out with a gift to give.

Some kernel of wisdom,

Maybe something as small as a smile or a hug to share.

Bearing this gift,

Find yourself spreading out like light to the horizons and across the cosmos.

Take three more breaths and come back to open your eyes.
