Letting it all fall away.
Letting go of the ruminations,
The chewings,
The racing thoughts and distractions.
They're just the weather and you,
You are the sky.
Coming into a deeper quiet,
A more profound stillness,
Settling in with gravity.
The mind will always wander every moment that you are alive.
The nature of blood vessels feeding,
Neurons and neurons firing and thoughts arising.
Part of life,
Inseparable from living.
We can't remove thought,
We can only notice it and direct it.
Start by directing your attention to your breath.
Having trouble breathing right now?
Is it already open,
Rhythmic or uneven?
Just notice yourself in a generous awareness.
Be grateful that you breathe and think and worry and tremble.
You're alive.
And then as you can,
In as much as you can,
Extend your breath in deeper,
Out slower,
In deeper,
Out slower.
Using that to help you relax and settle.
Imagining the thoughts and vibrations just turning down a little,
Becoming softer with each breath.
Letting gravity do more of the work.
Noticing the way it affects your body from head,
Shoulders,
Arms,
Belly,
Hips,
Gravity on your thighs and knees,
Calves,
All the way to your feet and toes.
In this meditation,
We're going to release and become smaller,
Giving away and giving.
Start by understanding yourself to take up a certain amount of space in your frame.
Notice your volume out to the very edge of your skin,
A separateness of self from the world around.
First,
We'll let go of any worry,
Any trouble.
Let it drift off,
Melt away,
And you become just a little smaller without it,
Needing less.
Breathing as you recede,
Giving away,
Letting go with each exhale.
Becoming perhaps smaller,
More modest in your requirements so that you can see better.
Give away your attention to someone who needs it.
Give out kindness and support to someone who is ill,
Sick,
Or recovering.
As you breathe,
Let that love go out and let yourself take up less space.
As you become greater by giving away,
Breathe into the freedom of letting go,
Giving up,
Sharing.
In the space you take,
You have material comforts,
Food and clothing,
Shelter,
Warmth.
Imagine giving some of that out generously and gently,
Even as you yourself need and want less.
Become smaller,
More capable of seeing broadly your place in a sharing and connected universe.
Breathe into that experience of becoming lighter as you give away gifts,
Feeling the joy of surrendering what you have,
Letting go,
Breathing.
Breathing.
As you get small,
You get lighter and might begin to float and extend and drift.
Life can be difficult and also full,
And sometimes full of worry,
But you have enough,
Enough even to give away of yourself,
Giving yourself as a gift to others whose lives are less full.
Offer that living out and become a little smaller yet again,
Less mass,
Less volume,
Light as dust or ash blowing,
Giving away,
Letting go,
Generously offering,
Continuing to become smaller and lighter and drift and let go,
Breathing yourself into flight.
