When symptoms escalate quickly - rocking, bobbing, swaying, panic surges through my chest, is it helpful to use IFS as a way to create space, or make room for and allow all that is happening to rise and fall without interference or resistance? Or is that just a subtle fixing behaviorHistorically, I’ve been visualizing the part of me that is anxious and afraid, the part of me that doubts whether recovery is possible at all, the part of me that feels desperate to fix this and figure it out as the timeline extends, the part of me that is frustrated and screaming “this isn’t working! You are on the wrong path! Do something!” Or the part of me drowning in grief and regret for the decisions that got me here?

How do I know when messages of safety may be helpful? And not fueling the part of me that wants to fix and solve the discomfort of not knowing whatever is keeping my symptoms going? Are safety messages, just another form of reassurance? Except the reassurance is internal instead of external?

When is self compassion form of reassurance? And how do you lean into avoidance behaviors without White knuckling them? How do you know when an avoidance behavior is too much for where I am on this path of Recovery? I know you can’t answer these questions for me with certainty but I would appreciate some guiding questions. I can ask myself.

I love love love this! Thank you so much. I knew this logically but I had a deepening of awareness and understanding listening to this today as I surf the waves of a painful interaction with my family. Allowing the uncertainty is terrifying. This reminded me there is no way to know the outcome until I take the action. I appreciate your work and I’m looking forward to learning more.

Thank you. I’m dealing with intense migraines symptoms right now and your voice and practice was a glimmer of hope, a reminder that things will eventually be ok.
