This one shift in perspective could change how you view anxiety forever.
I'm KJ Foster.
A therapist who specializes in anxiety,
OCD,
And recovery.
And I help people build lasting resilience.
If you struggle with anxiety,
Overwhelm,
Or overthinking,
There's something important I want you to remember.
Your nervous system is not trying to hurt you.
It's trying to protect you.
Anxiety is often the body's way of saying something feels unsafe.
Even when there isn't actual danger present.
Your mind scans for problems.
Your body becomes tense.
Your thoughts race ahead,
Trying to prevent pain,
Rejection,
Embarrassment,
Loss,
Or uncertainty.
And while it may feel frustrating,
This response usually developed for a reason.
Maybe you learned early in life that you needed to stay alert.
Maybe your nervous system adapted to stress by becoming hyper-aware.
And hypervigilant.
That doesn't mean you're broken.
It means your system became protective.
But protection and peace are not always the same thing.
Sometimes your nervous system reacts as though everything is urgent.
Even when you are actually safe in this moment.
And healing begins when we stop attacking ourselves for having anxiety and start responding to ourselves with compassion instead.
You do not need to shame yourself for being overwhelmed.
You do not need to force yourself to just calm down.
Instead,
Try gently reminding yourself.
My nervous system is activated right now.
And I can support myself through this.
Take a slow breath.
Relax your shoulders if you can.
Notice the chair beneath you.
And the ground beneath your feet.
Safety is not created through pressure.
It's created through compassion.
Patient.
And practice.
And little by little,
Your nervous system can learn that it does not have to stay in survival mode forever.

And recovery to build lasting resilience.
