Welcome back to your RPM practice.
Today's practice is one of the most important response prevention messages I teach my therapy clients.
My feelings aren't safe.
Evidence.
And now before we begin,
I want to clarify something.
This message isn't saying your feelings don't matter.
They absolutely matter.
Your feelings tell you about your experience.
They tell you what it's like to be you in this moment.
Moment.
But feelings don't always tell you what's true.
Think about a scary movie.
Your heart races.
Your muscles tense.
You may even jump.
Your body feels as though you're in danger.
But you're sitting safely on your couch.
The feeling is real.
The danger,
Isn't.
Anxiety works much the same way.
It creates feelings of doubt.
Feelings of fear.
Urgency.
Or uncertainty.
Those feelings are real.
But they aren't necessarily evidence that something is wrong.
Today's practice.
Is about learning to separate.
Your experience.
From the story that anxiety is.
Tells about that experience.
Every time you do that.
You're strengthening a healthier pathway in your brain.
Let's practice together.
Take one slow,
Deep breath in.
And gently let it go.
Again.
Deep breath in.
And breathing out.
Allow your shoulders to soften.
Notice the support beneath you.
Nothing needs to be figured out.
Nothing needs to be solved.
Just this moment.
And when you're ready.
Let's begin our practice.
Allow your breathing.
To settle into its own natural rhythm.
There's nothing you need to change.
Simply notice each breath.
And now silently repeat each response prevention message after me.
And remember.
Today we're practicing.
Not persuading.
My feelings aren't evidence.
Feelings change.
Truth doesn't.
Anxiety changes how I feel.
It doesn't define reality.
I don't need to obey every feeling.
I can feel doubt without solving it.
I can feel uncertainty without answering it.
Feelings come.
Feelings go.
I don't need today's feelings.
To decide tomorrow's actions.
I choose my values,
Not my anxiety.
My brain is learning.
That feelings don't require compulsions.
I can carry this feeling.
With kindness.
Recovery happens.
One response.
At a time.
One breath.
One choice.
One moment at a time.
Take one final deep breath in.
And gently let it go.
Before we finish,
I want to leave you with one important tip.
One of anxiety's greatest tricks.
Is convincing us that because something feels true,
It must be true.
But think about your own life.
Have you ever felt embarrassed?
Only to discover no one noticed?
Have you ever felt certain something would go wrong?
And it didn't.
Have you ever felt like you couldn't handle something?
Only to surprise yourself.
Feelings are real.
But they aren't reliable evidence.
When anxiety shows up.
It changes your emotional experience.
It can make safe things feel dangerous.
It can make healthy relationships feel uncertain.
It can make ordinary body sensations feel frightening.
That doesn't mean your feelings are lying.
It simply means they aren't designed to determine reality.
Every time you notice a feeling.
Without treating it as evidence.
Your weakening anxiety scripts.
You're teaching your brain.
I don't have to react just because I feel something.
That's neuroplasticity.
That's response prevention.
Resilient.
As you move through your day.
Notice every time anxiety tries to tell you but it feels so real.
Pause.
Take one slow breath.
Repeat your RPM.
My feelings aren't evidence.
And gently return your attention to the life unfolding right in front of you.
Remember.
Your brain can learn.
Your nervous system can heal.
And every small choice you make.
Is another step.
Toward a resilient life.
Thank you for practicing with me today.
Until next time,
Keep choosing your life over your fear.
