You may have heard the saying,
Everything will be okay in the end,
And if it's not okay,
It's not the end.
But what does it mean?
What could it be referring to?
I like to think of it as a nod to impermanence,
The fact that everything is constantly changing.
If the end is a little too final or dramatic for you,
Try to think of it as just the end of this current phase or situation,
Or even just the end of how you're currently feeling.
Or we can adapt the saying to,
Everything will be okay,
If it's not okay yet,
It will be.
This can be a helpful reminder that feelings are impermanent,
The way you're currently feeling is only temporary and it will change.
You haven't always felt this way,
Have you?
It may be that you've felt the way you're currently feeling for a very long time,
And it may take a long time for those feelings to change,
But the important thing is,
They will change.
Think back to a time when you didn't feel this way,
However long ago it was.
Remind yourself that you have felt differently at some point.
It's crucial to also apply this logic to positive or happy feelings.
If we attach ourselves to those feelings or expect them to last when we're feeling them,
We'll be disappointed when they also change.
Managing our expectations and reminding ourselves of impermanence can be a key component of a more balanced mental state.
I do have a full practice on my profile called Using Impermanence for a Peaceful Life,
If you'd like to explore this further,
But I hope you can take this with you and remind yourself of it as you go about your day.
Remember,
Everything will be okay,
If it's not okay yet,
It will be.
Take care and hopefully see you soon.
